"Indeed, they are." Nathaniël said looking at the rat disappearing. "Such unpredictable creatures. You can know how they will respond, but it always turns out a bit different." He said and looked around the room as if he was discovering all the small details again.
Nathaniël smiled and looked at Arabella. "So, let's go and look at another room. I think we both saw enough of this one by now. And besides I need to get to know the mansion again since I'll probably be staying here for a while." He said not knowing what to do and didn't want to bore Arabella to death.

Arabella drained the last of her drink, set the cup on the table and stood up.
"Sure, I mean to say," she began, a teasing edge to her voice as she smirked at Nathaniël.
"We could probably spend the whole day looking at different rooms and not get bored," she said.
"So, where to next?" she asked.

Nathaniël grinned at Arabella. "I guess we can go to the main living room, if I remember where it is." Nathaniël said to her and walked out of the kitchen they were just in.
Nathaniël walked into the main hall again and went to another door opposite to the one they just came from. He opened the door and behind it there was a large room, it looked again like something pretty old. Some large chairs and sofas. There also was a fireplace put up at the wall on the opposite side of the room, surrounded by some chairs and a bear pelt on the floor. One of the corners was filled with a desk, obviously for some studying or writing. Beside it stood a bookcase containing some books and some small statues, including some miniature mythical creatures. As like the other room it wasn't full of stuff, but just had enough. Again dark and quite dusty.
"So...here we are at the next room. I liked it here sometimes." Nathaniël said and smiled a bit.

Arabella followed him into the new room, or... old room. She looked around. The place looked just as deserted as any other place she'd seen so far in the house.
"What are these books about?" she asked, walking up to the shelf and running a hand along the dusty spines of all the books. She also took a closer look at some of the miniature statues. They were all of mystical creatures. She smiled.
"Too bad there isn't a vampire bat on there, huh?" she asked, smirking and turning back towards Nathaniël.

Nathaniël walked to Arabella standing in front of the shelf. He smiled. "The books are about life, death and everything in between. Some are fiction some are fact. Even some biographies. I have read them all, except for some I have in the library..." Nathaniël said, looking at the books and then to Arabella. "It's not a large library." He quickly added.
"And yes...it's too bad there isn't a vampire bat between those. But then again, it are just some things I picked up everywhere around the world with my travels." Nathaniël said as he picked up a miniature dragon.

"Who knows... maybe there are real dragons out there somewhere..." she joked lightly, picking up another dragon sculpture.
"Where have you been in your travels? I'm not much of a mover myself, stayed in Britain and England all my life... living and dead," [she added as a second thought.

"I...Well I've been all over actually. I've been to each continent, some multiple times. I do not know why but I guess I just needed to get away from England. And now it was probably the right time to get back here again." Nathaniël said to Arabella, who was still looking at all the stuff on the desk. "I wasn't planning on getting to London so early, but the city I wanted to stay at, Dover, was changed too much. And some things seemed to have happened to my house I had there. So I ended up here, I don't know for how long I will be staying here though. But being back in this mansion sure is nice." He said and smiled a bit.
Nathaniël picked up another dragon from the desk, and looked at it. "This one is over 250 years old, I got it in China when I was doing business there. Same for many more items in this mansion. You like them?" Nathaniël asked Arabella while pointing at the sculptures.

"Yes!" Arabella exclaimed enthusiastically, smiling widely. She'd always been a sucker for little sculptures and carvings.
"China? I think.... my great grandmother was Chinese, but I'm not sure anymore. Still... that's so interesting though. I've never been to China. What's it like there?" Arabella asked interestedly.

"It has been a while since I had last been there. But when I was there the people seemed free and happy. After having been there for a while you start to notice it's just a mask for foreigners to come visit there more often. Tourism and trade weren't always allowed and they were forced to do many of their trades. The harbor cities are quite crowded with people, even at night. They needed to work hard because their payment was low..." Nathaniël said and drifted back into his memories.
Nathaniël walked to a window and looked outside. It was dark outside, and the trees surrounding the mansion blocked most of the light reflected from the moon.
"I never liked it in the cities, but further on worth into the main land you start to see the real China, all the beauties and horrors. The countryside looked nice at night from what I can remember." NN said and smiled a bit. "Anyway...I think that's about enough from China." He said as he turned away from the window looking at Arabella.

Arabella grinned. He seemed to know a lot. Well... obviously, since he'd been to so many places. She could really learn something from him.
"Are there any other interesting histories to these little statues?" she asked, picking up a fairy-like one and examining it. It's wings resembled that of a butterfly and was delicately carved.

The two vampires were still standing at the statues admiring them for what they were and how they looked.
"Some have more interesting stories then others. Some have stories better not to be told, some stories have been forgotten through the ages. So yes, some do have interesting histories and stories to be told." Nathaniël said as he wondered off with his mind.
Nathaniël was thinking of some of the stories behind the statues, the reasons he had obtained them and why they were made. He smiled after a while. "These are the ones that give me inspiration for almost anything. The other statues that I have in an other room are different, not only because of their size but also the stories behind them. As they are more or less interesting, depending on who wants to know that is..."

"Tell me a story," Arabella said, putting down the little statue and looking up at Nathaniël. Her eyes glittered with curiosity. Indeed, she sounded quite like a small child. But when it came to stories and histories, she was always fascinated.
"You pick one to tell," she said, settling down in an armchair and looking at Nathaniël.

"A story?" Nathaniël said and looked surprised at Arabella. He smiled and looked at the statues. 'A story... What story to tell, what story needs to be told?' He thought as his mind drifted off more.
Nathaniël picked up a small box hidden behind the statues. He carefully opened it, inside was a turquoise scarab. Nathanièl smiled, and took it out. "This one has a story to be told." He said to Arabella.
Nathaniël had the scarab on his hand so that Arabella could see it. "As you may or may not know is that a Scarab is an insect once worshiped by the Egyptians." He said to her. "I obtained it in Egypt, during the time I was trying to understand more about vampires and other creatures..."
'Memories...' Nathaniël thought. 'They sometimes have their values, but they can be hard to share.' He sighted and turned around. "Egypt... It's a nice country, and I'm glad I visited it at the time I did. Times have changed there." He said as he walked over to the other side of the room and stopped at a window to look outside.
"It was well over a hundred years ago and I was getting desperate to get answers to the many questions I had. After searching for a while in other countries all over Europe the name Egypt began to pop-up more and more. So I decided to go there. To look for my answers underneath the sun in great deserts or in the shadows casted by the pyramids." Nathaniël said as he began his story and he looked at the scarab for a moment. "At the time I arrived there it was summer and to many people it would be hot. It wasn't the right time to be there I thought at first, but I just had to go there. But after being there for some days I noticed how much of night activity there was, it didn't take long for me to understand that doing your daily activities in the sun with temperatures too high to live a normal life you just had too. Which all was in my favor of course. I could do research at night without being questioned. The first few weeks I visited many libraries and read even more books hoping to find answers or find locations or names to help me in my search." Nathaniël said and took a short break to turn around and look at Arabella who seemed to enjoy it.
Nathaniël walked to the table and put the scarab on it. A small light made it look even more colorful. He put up a friendly smile on his face and looked ready to continue his story.
"It took me some time to get to know some names of people who might be able to help me get closer to the answers I was seeking. Once I finally thought to have found the right person I discovered that he had recently passed away from a disease. But that didn't stop me, I tracked down a women who's name I had put on my list of persons that could help me. At that time asking a women for advise was thought to be insanity as their beliefs were even more praised then they are now. But I didn't care, and why should I? I didn't need to fear them, and who would anyway...Back to the main story. I arrived at some small house, where I believed the women lived. And luckily she was, but time wasn't on her favor it seemed, and neither was it on mine. The women was old, as I expected, but that made it more difficult to help me. I managed to talk to her for some hours but then she got too tired to talk and needed a rest and I had to leave again with some information of another person that could help me, another women and a lot easier to find. She on the other hand was a lot younger and by the looks of it the daughter. I got to know her and she seemed interested in helping me. I of course could not let her know why I wanted to know everything. A few days later we took a guide and some camels with us into the desert, luckily also the traveling went at night due to the insane temperatures. But it was hard to stay out of the sun without causing too much suspicion. At the end I managed to convince them I wasn't feeling so well while outside in the extreme heats of the sun." Nathaniël said as he was sitting down on a chair for a minute. He smiled at Arabella. "Still want me to continue the story?" He asked her.
