James placed a hand on Ayden's head and petted her hair. A brotherly gesture. She was scared and he had to help her. She would have to learn how to defend herself eventually and he would help her. He knew it wasn't his place to teach pack members how to defend themselves, that was Patrick's job. But she trusted him and he would just show her what both Gavin and Patrick had taught him.
"I know how you feel. When I'm with Litte, or even with you right now, it's so hard just to go back. You just want to live in the moment. But take your time, Ayden. Don't rush yourself or you will go crazy. It's sometimes overwhelming."

Ayden sighed and shut her eyes tight, blocking out all the thoughts of the outside world. But one image popped into her mind that hasn’t been there in a long while. It was that of her birth mother. And then she remembered why this image would be burning behind her eyelids. She remembered that day when she went back to her home town, just to check on her mother. But the lady had said…told her that the woman who was her mother was sent to the hospital. The loony house. All because Ayden left. God, this world was so crazy, she thought sadly to herself.
”I wish my past would go away,” Ayden whispered. But the words rang through the trees as if she chimed the largest bell. ”That’s what so overwhelming. All of you speak of how you have no true family and that they are dead and what not but not me. My past is still living and breathing. My mother is in an insane asylum because I left for this new life. I never told her I was leaving, I just did. Gah!” Ayden threw her hands in the air in defeat.

James looked at Ayden with pain in his eyes. He knew exactly how she felt. All of the wolves in the pack have lost someone quite dear to them. All they had now was each other. Was that enough? Not in the entire galaxy. Not one of them can say, "I know how you feel" and not completely mean every syllable. They all were bonded by their disastrous histories.
"Well then go to her. One day, maybe not this week or even next year, but eventually go to her. Hug her and tell her every thing's alright. A lie, but that's what human's are only good for. Their lies. You're lucky Ayden. Eventually she will hold you in her arms. This is something every single wolf in this pack craves but can never get. You always want what you don't have. That's just human nature."

"I know". Ayden whispered. She knew she was luckier than most of the other wolves in her back. Her father was still roaming the land and her mother, though insane, was still alive. OH how she wished she could be strong and go to her mother and still beside her, just being there like the old days. That her birth father would go back to her mother and they could be a happy family again. That she was never attack and was forced to walk this world as two creatures in one body.
Ayden couldn't surpress a shiver that went down her spine as the cold night air ran over her flesh. She sometimes hated her human body now that she had one of fur and hot flesh. Then, it came to her. Standing, Ayden looked down to James and held out her hand, grinning like mad dog. "I'm bored, and cold. Let's run." She said simply. But the thing was, Ayden didn't mean running like any other person in the woods would. Oh no, the moon was still high in the sky and Ayden was itching to get out of this skin. SHe wanted to run and get her mind off the real world. At least for a little while.

James took her hand and stood. He smiled broadly back at her. They did need a break from all of this melancholy moment. A run would be nice, besides, he was a little cold himself. "Ok, Ayden, how about we make it a race?" he offered, excitement building in his chest. He loved running, especially with other wolves where they had no limits.
James glanced at her for the last time as a human before he began the change. Taking his shirt off and kicking off his shoes, James would leave those there for tomorrow morning if he could find this place again. He could carry his pants in his mouth and Ayden could take her bra and pants. He didn't know if she bothered with shirts. Honestly, James didn't like too much fabric in his mouth. He preferred to have his tongue lolling out the side like a dog.
He made it quick and in seconds he stood on four paws, a wolf with silver fur, the color of the moon. He woofed and wagged his tail and waited for Ayden.
