James was lost. Everywhere he turned, every direction he took, he just ended up in the same place. He was starting to really hate that tree with the gigantic knot. He had half a mind to tear it down just so the scenery would look different to him.
It was his fault, as always. I should go explore the forest, it's smart to learn my way around it and what's in there his words echoed in his head, mockingly. What was he thinking! He should have at least taken someone from Patrick's pack.
Good thing he could take care of himself out in the big and cold wilderness, he told himself as he started shivering. He was sitting on a log now. he could think of many ways to get out of here but none of them were very... environmentally friendly. As a wolf he respected nature.
He'd just about given up. The only thing he could do was wait until morning. Maybe the light would shed new paths to him.

Oh how she loved these woods. Ayden could simply walk and be far from her mother and the smell of booze and the tears…..she didn’t know how much more she could take of it. For the past, well, it seemed forever now, she had been listening to the sounds of her mother’s sobs of loosing the man she thought was made for her. The man she was with and thought would be with forever. The man who went behind her back and screwed a younger girl.
But this was Ayden’s escape. Ever since she was changed, her solace had become a place to run, to change her newfound body and grace and strength. Ayden would come here on the nights of the full moon and let nature take it’s course.
But tonight wasn’t a night for letting the wolf take over. No, tonight was a night to be human, to let it al sink in. Her new life, her new body, her new way to love herself…
Ayden Marie had been walking the familiar hidden path when she heard it. A noise telling her she was not even close to alone. And it was there, in the shadows of the trees ahead where she saw the figure of a lean man on a log, his body almost hunched over. He gave off a scent she could smell from her place. It screamed familiarity, family, comfort, wolf. It was someone like her. Maybe it was him, the man who changed her…no, his body was too thin, she discovered as she came closer. She tried to creep up to him, not to scare him, but it was hard not to in a dark forest. “Lost?” She spoke softly. She spoke in English, just in case he didn’t understand French, it was a safe bet. “If you don’t know these woods, you shouldn’t travel alone.”

James jumped. The familiar wolf was so quiet, he had barely heard her. And forget about scent. These woods could clear anyone's sinuses. Speaking of, ever since he got here he'd been sneezing like a mad-wolf. Pollen. It sucked. The wolf's name was Ayden. She was knew to the pack, or so he thought she was. It was hard keeping track of all of their names.
James sniffled from the chilly air and from the tiny microscopic yellow dots of doom. AKA pollen. "Yeah..." James grinned admitting defeat, "I did manage to get myself lost in here. Ayden, right? It's James if you didn't already know," he stood up and held out his hand for her to shake. He was such the little gentleman!

Ayden smiled a bit. That was right, this was one of them. The pack that took her in, to teach her, mold her even. When she found them, she was so happy, she could finally know. Even though it wasn’t the man who changed her teaching her, it was still someone. One of the female wolves had tried to tell her everyone but, it didn’t take to her mind all too well. But that’s where his scent was familiar from. She was introduced to him. Yes…James was his name.
Ayden took his hand and almost curtsied. She wasn’t sure why, she just felt the need to be overly polite. He seemed so regal, maybe it was just his looks, or because he knew so much more than her…”Yes, my name is Ayden Grey. I remember you from when I met everyone, well, as much as I can remember everyone.” A light laugh came from her throat. ” C'est ma maison, je peux vous montrer où je me promène.” She said, speaking in her native tongue and smirking a bit. “Sorry, it is just so easier to speak French. But, this is my home, where I grew up. I can show you where I roam and how to get out.” She smiled again.

Ayden was so polite! He loved that trait in people. He had a feeling they would get along just fine. She was French. James thought he'd heard a faint accent somewhere in her words. Speaking her tongue proved him correct.
They were both new puppies to the pack. He'd adjusted in various ways. Most of them quite painful. Well it was safe to say he'd never get bored around here. He couldn't help but recognize the look he gave her. It was that 'oh he's really cute!' look. He sighed. It was sometimes difficult living with godly good looks. Modest? Psh... sure.
She was a pretty wolf herself. They must be around the same age. "I think I would love to get out of here," he admitted. "But something tells me that you aren't comfortable with something." He was poking for information. Of course she wasn't comfortable with somethings. None of the new wolves seemed ever perfectly at ease.

Ayden couldn’t help but smile while talking with James. She was still so uncomfortable being around those of her kind because…well…she just wasn’t used to werewolves being ‘her kind’. She was used to being a simple human only thinking that werewolves and vampires were mythical beings from stories. Well, she learned the hard way that those facts weren’t true. Especially her time in America…she shuddered at the thought of what happened and instinctively reached her hand up to her neck.
When he asked if she was uncomfortable with anything, millions of things flooded her mind. Of course she was uncomfortable. Sure, this new life could be great, but sometimes she felt like she didn’t fit. Maybe that took a while though…
“Yeah, I am. It’s just…I know nothing about this life. I was given this gift from a guy at a club and now…now I am trying to defend myself from vampires and killing them when I know nothing about them.” She shook her head and looked off into the woods. “I feel safe here, in the woods, at night. It’s peaceful, almost like there is no world outside. No humans, vampires, werewolves…just me. And well…whoever is with me. You might want to get out of here, but here is my escape. Where I can get out…” Her voice trailed off as she thought of her home. Of course, it was going to hurt her mother to also loose her daughter, but that woman was so far gone she probably wouldn’t even notice if Ayden left. She couldn’t wait to have a real family, to be in a pack, no matter what it meant. But first, she needed to know the basics, the basics of who she was.

James listened acutely. He could relate to Ayden in a lot of ways. She was scared and he didn't blame her. He was pretty freaked out himself. He was dating a vampire for the love of heaven! Well he would do everything he could to make Ayden more comfortable in this horrific world.
"I know. I was forced into this myself. A vampire killed my family. She was going to kill me too and then a werewolf saved me. My old pack leader. It just wasn't fair. If that vampire hadn't had my father under her mind control then I wouldn't be talking to you now. I feel safe no where. All the time vampires try to kill me because of what I am. You're lucky you have this place. I just have the wolf inside me to keep me company," he tried to say this reassuringly, but there was nothing good about either of them.

Ayden sighed and sat down on the log that James had been sitting on before she came over to him. She dropped her head into her hands and sighed loudly. Sometimes the world could be so cruel…She had listened to James’ story and felt sympathy for him. She knew the feeling of loss and knew how painfully it was. Since her birth father left, she had not seen him once, so it was like he was dead. Plus, her mother was lost to her own world, so she knew, sort-of.
”I had no choice with this life. I was seduced….that man, I still see his picture in my mind. It burns behind my eyelids everytime I close my eyes. I need closure, I need to know who he is. But knowing my luck I never will. He just, I don’t know, changed me on a whim. Told me what I was and left. I know nothing!” Ayden threw her hand up in defeat. It had shown how she knew nothing. And now, after her encounter, she wanted to know how to defend herself when faced with one of those things again. A vampire. Those disgusting creatures. They took life without warning…
A wind blew and blew Ayden’s hair away from her face and neck. The cold air felt good against her warm skin. She looked at James out of the corner of her eye and patted the spot next to her. It was always awkward to sit while someone else was standing, but she needed to sit, to let the world sink in.

James felt genuinely sorry for Ayden. He was lucky. The man who changed him took him in. He was a father to the boy. A much needed father. If James was left alone, he would have thought he was crazy and he might have killed himself. James plopped down next to Ayden. He put his leg against her's. Body language for closeness. She needed a friend, he needed a friend.
"I'm sorry. If you ever want to go after him, I will be right behind you. Pack members help each other. I learned that in the past when my old pack used to always back me up no matter how much trouble I got into."

Ayden felt his leg against her and felt the connection. He was showing her he was there for her, and Ayden couldn’t help but smile and lean in a bit. She was glad she had someone who would listen, who would help her. She could tell that James genuinely was sorry and cared, and it touched her. No one had known about what happened to her and if her old friends knew…well, they’d think her to be crazy. But James knew and was like her so he could offer her peace of mind.
”I don’t think I will ever find him and…I think I might have to accept that.” She said, defeat laced in her voice. Ayden sighed and leaned her head back to look up at the clear sky. How she wish she could fly and escape every problem known to man. If only…
”This world is so…new,” She said, looking back to James. ”I mean, I get a few things already but I know there is so much more to learn.” She shook her head back and forth. ”Never would I have thought the night would be this dark. It scares me to know I am apart of it, fighting a creature that I don’t know if I can beat. The night is a place of peace and quiet, but now, it’s so loud and harsh…I don’t know if I can do it.”

Ayden reminded James of himself. One word could describe them both: confused. He thought back to Litte. She had confused the hell out of him. There is no expecting what's around the next corner in a crazy world like this one. Patrick taught him many things. Maybe he could return the favor and help him out by helping Ayden. His new leader was old. He couldn't do the things James did now.
"But that's why the sun exists," he told her warmly. Light brought everything out of the dark. Especially vampires. They were nothing without the darkness. He could relate to her words again. The only thing that kept him going on was his reason. Destroy vampires. Make the world safe again. Unfortunately, werewolves were added to that equation. They were as dangerous to human kind as vampires were. But the difference was a werewolf could be turned good fast. They didn't have that blood lust except on a full moon.
"Let me help you then. What do you want to learn to do? Fight vampires? I can take you to one. I've been in Paris long enough to learn where their HQ's are. What you need is some hands on experiences."

Ayden almost fell off the log when James suggested going to try and fight a vampire now. Again, her hand went to her neck, the mark from her last encounter, and shook her head. No, she couldn’t go through that again. That feeling of no power, of hopelessness. Ayden would have been dead right now unless that other vampire came along. That other vampire with that familiar smell…oh shit.
Ayden sharply looked to James and sniffed the air around him. She probably looked crazy sniffing him, but she had to know if they scent matched up. She had smelt a wolf on the vampire and knew it was familiar. Now she knew why. Why would a vampire smell of James? Ayden’s eyes showed her question as she looked at James.
”Who’s the vampire?’ She asked sharply, not meaning for it to come out harshly. Wasn’t she apart of a pack that was out to kill vampires, not leave them. If so, then the vampire shouldn’t be alive and smelling of her pack member. Plus, James just said that his family was killed by them, why would he leave one alive. ”James…I…I don’t know how to say this…why would I have smelt you on a vampire? Wouldn’t you have killed it or left it wounded had you found it?’ She questioned.

James' head reeled. Oh no, this was happening again. The looks, the questions, the suspicions, mental note: bathe in alcohol after hanging out with Litte He was screwing this relationship up. Ayden had been with Litte at some point, James was sure of it. He might actually have to tell this one the truth. There was no getting out of it. She could go find Litte and hurt her if he didn't and he couldn't let that happen. Would Ayden hate him now? He sure hoped not. James hung his head as he spoke the words.
"I'm seeing a vampire. I don't know how it happened, it just did. I love her but I hate myself at the same times. You have no idea how confusing it is. I wanted to kill her, I almost did, but then I saved her life and fell in love. I'm teaching her how to hunt animals. If you ever go after her, I will fight you," he said sternly. This was just another reason to hate himself even more. If she hurt Litte, he would betray his pack and make sure she was avenged.

At first, Ayden couldn’t believe her ears. A man who just told her that his family was killed by vampires is in love with one? How can that be? How can he fall in love with something he should kill? But as she thought about it and saw the true love in James eyes, she understood. It was real. He didn’t see her as a vampire and he could tell she probably didn’t see him as a werewolf. They were just two people in love. Ayden’s look of shock change into a soft smile.
”Oh James…” Ayden shook her head. If anyone else in the pack found out about this, James would probably be punished and the poor girl killed. But as he spoke about this girl, she could tell how happy she made him, and even Ayden didn’t want to see happiness from love denied from someone. She saw what happened when love was torn from someone, and didn’t want to see that happen to anyone else she cared for.
”I promise I will not do anything to her.” She said as truthfully as possible. ”You are very strong to teach her how to hunt animals, I must say. You seem so happy…I promise I won’t take that from you. I’ve seen the affect of loved lost and, I don’t want to see it again.’ Ayden looked off into the dark then back at her friend. ”You really love her don’t you?’

James flinched away. He could only imagine what horrible thoughts Ayden was thinking. He was curious but at the same time deathly afraid. She was the first one he told about his vampire lover. He would never betray Litte, but this wolf had his number and there was no other way out of this other than telling her the whole truth.
James released the breath he'd been holding when he saw her smile. She understood then. James was relieved. This was a wolf he could definitely trust with his life and Litte's. She would never tell his secret. Every word Ayden spoke was the truth. He could feel it.
James looked her in the eyes. "I'm madly in love with her. It's so hard though, you have to understand. But when we're together we try and forget how monstrous we really are. She makes me so happy. I've never smiled so much with anyone other than her. I could hurt her in so many ways possible. Sometimes I think she deserves better," he told her.
