"Okay, um. . . thank you. Loyalty is gained, not given."
Obviously she had a lot to learn about the world she was now thrown into. Loyalties in the vampire world were exceedingly important. It was something that Sebastian himself, was very picky with. Betrayal of a master was the worst thing one could do. If he could not be promised this girl’s loyalty, he wasn’t so sure he wanted to take care of her. He did not think her loyalty was an unfair price for what he offered.
“In that case, I’m sure there are other vampires, more generous specimens that will take care of you,” he said, with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
He glanced at his watch a moment, and back at the boy, Deakon, who was remaining quite silent.
“Ah, I have an appointment in New Orleans. Will you excuse me? It has been enchanting, truly,” he said, getting up to make leave.

Ebony bit her lip, she knew that she could give him her loyalty. Ebony closed her eyes for a second.
"Wait." She said quietly. Ebony took a deep breath. "You have my loyalty, I swear it." Ebony knew that she needed him now, and loyalty wasn't too big of a price to pay.

"Wait. You have my loyalty, I swear it."
Ah, a more appropriate answer. Sebastian turned around leisurely; his eyebrows slightly rose as if he were surprised. He was a tad. But at the same time, he was pleased. This girl seemed promising. If only she’d stop moping around. He hated the like. They wasted so much time. Even though, when one was a vampire, time was surely in excess.
“The you, dear Ebony, have my protection,” he said, glancing back down at his watch.
“Ah, I’m sure there is time to spare before my engagement. Come sit. You must tell me what really ails you. We must talk, hmm? There is much I should like to be acquainted with,” he said, returning to the spot on the fountain where he had been sitting.

Ebony smiled slightly, she liked the way that Sebastian talked, it was. . . different. But he was far older than any vampire she had ever met, so it was expected.
Ebony took a deep breath, sitting back down. "Okay, um, I don't know. I haven't always been so. . ." she tried to find the right word, ". . . undecided. When I was first blooded, I had hardly any hesitation to kill. Just for the past few years," Ebony shrugged, "it's just been different."
She looked back up to gage Sebastian's reaction.

"Okay, um, I don't know. I haven't always been so. . undecided. When I was first blooded, I had hardly any hesitation to kill. Just for the past few years. It’s just been different."
Sebastian raised his eyebrows slowly, in recognition. Ah, yes. It did have a name: guilt. It was very easy to feel sudden guilt for the entire killing. In fact, most vampires were almost on an early high when first blooded, while some are disgusted. Whichever extreme, it can be predicted that one will revert to the opposite end.
“Ah, you’re feeling guilty, are you? Well that’s nothing to fret about. It just shows that you’re not a mindless monster that kills without thinking,” he said slowly.
“But indeed, this should be appreciated in our race. There are so many that forget why we kill. To live. Not for the mere enjoyment of seeing others suffer. Vampires are not monster. We are beings, beautiful and unique in our own ways. If we are reckless, we will indeed come to pay,” he advised her.
It was true in Sebastian’s mind. If one didn’t think twice about taking the life of another, they weren’t strong. They were weak minded and beastly. Nothing at all like the people they once were. One had to stay slightly human, they had to keep their mind alive if not their heart.

Ebony raised her eyebrows, listening to Sebastian's advise. What he said what honest and completely right, but did it help?
After he was done speaking: "But does thinking these things make this guilt really go away? Does it cure it?" Ebony shook her head. "I know that I kill only to survive, but guilt still eats away at my gut."

"But does thinking these things make this guilt really go away? Does it cure it? I know that I kill only to survive, but guilt still eats away at my gut."
“Good,” answered Sebastian curtly.
“As discomforting as we may find it, you will get used to it. You can always feed on animals for a while. Blood is blood,” he advised her.
Sometimes vampires shared their blood, but this was the one thing Sebastian absolutely would not do. Something about his pride, or a fear that one could be like him made him reserve his blood for himself, and those few he blooded.
“Everyone is different. You will find your path. Sometimes you have to rummage through the woods awhile,” he said, his voice taking on a slightly misty tone.
“Until then, you are welcome to reside with me. I will guide you. If you it is killing you fear, than blood can be delivered to you in other ways until you are more comfortable. This is the twenty first century after all.”

Ebony nodded, not able to think of anything to say. She took a deep breath, combing her shaking fingers through her hair. Ebony knew just how weak she was now. She had not fed in over a week, Ebony was surprised that she was functioning at all.
Ebony looked over the garden, she closed her eyes slightly, making her mind focus. She had been running on autopilot for too long now. It was time to get her life back under control. Ebony hoped that Sebastian was willing to help her, and was telling her these things because he really meant them.

Sebastian noted that Ebony seemed rather...tired. He supposed it was from a lack in feeding. Yes, many vampires wasted away from not feeding, until they could take it no longer and commited countless numbers of unspeakable things.
Upon seeing so, he quietly rose, and disappeared into the woods for about five minutes. Eventually, he came back with a small squirrel. Not much, but it'd do for now...until he got her something proper to eat.
He never really favored killing animals, killing was killing. But this was merely what was convenient at the time. He returned, sitting in his original position and handed her the animal.
"Go on, you need this," he said, pushing it on her.

Ebony crossed her legs underneath herself, waiting for Sebastian to return. When he did, she noticed the squirrel in his hands. Every moment more that she had to take the blood from an animal made her more and more ashamed of the way that she lived. Ebony knew that she should just take blood from humans, but the thought sickened her all the same.
Ebony took the squirrel from Sebastian's hands delicately. Ebony's fangs extended, not in the same ecstacy that they should have at just the scent of a human, but because she forced them to.
Ebony bit lightly near where the squirrel's jugular vein should be. She drank what little blood it had. Ebony lowered the miniature lifeless corpse onto her lap. Licking the slight trail of blood from the corner of her mouth with her tongue. The blood tasted so delicious, it was enthrawling.
Ebony looked up at Sebastian. "Thanks," She said quietly, already feeling the little bit of energy the squirrel provided.

"Thanks," said Ebony, quietly.
Sebastian smirked, and took the small, lifeless body from her when she was finished. He discared it in the woods where it was found, and turned back to his new protege. He would teach her, like he taught Julian. She would become great.
"See? A little blood is all one needs. Don't go on believing that slaughtering is the way to find glory," he said.
Nothing really irked him more. He wasn't exactly affiliated with good, nor evil vampires for the very fact that his desire was to create such a large and powerful community of vampires that it was possible to take over small places and assimiliate. Perhaps, as cliche as it sounded, take over the world. Some silly young things with a desire only to wreak havoc and waste their time were not going to accomplish this. It took planning, strength and intelligence.
"How old are you?" he asked her.

"See? A little blood is all one needs. Don't go on believing that slaughtering is the way to find glory," he said.
Ebony didn't believe that slaughtering at all was going to bring glory, she had never. If she only had to take a little blood from humans, than it would be bareable. But. . . control, did she really have enough control?
Ebony folded her hands together in her lap. Around 35, give or take a year or two. She had not even tried to count the years of suffering she was forced to exist.

"Around 35, give or take a year or two."
"Hmm, that's not old at all. Have you any friends?" he then asked her.
He wondered if she befriended any other vampires. Many young vampires would find someone to take care of them, join a coven, something of the sort. Sebastian imagined that Ebony would join Rose Rogue under his protection. Of course, he'd have to make sure she could be trusted.

Ebony bit her lip, she shook her head. "No." That's all Ebony could say, not having an excuse for her being on her own except that, well, she just was.
Ebony knew that in her weak condition it that she made a very good target for a vampire who enjoyed the pain of his or her own kind. For the most part she had simply stayed away from those of her kind to protect herself.

"No," she answered, curtly.
Sebastian tsk tsked. Ah, it was difficult to be alone in the world. Sebastian only considered himself to have a few very close friends, the rest were just...relations. No one incredibly close to him, few people that he loved. But it was nice to have companionship.
"No? That's too bad," he said, really as a space filler.
He tapped his temple for a moment, and then thought of an interesting question.
"If you could be anything, save living, what would you be? And not dead either, no, those are easy answers," he said, a glint of sarcasm in his eyes.
