He was awake. 2am at night, no - morning, and he was still wide awake. Clutching onto the handles of his highway scooter, he drove past the cars, immune to the stagnant traffic around him. One of the perks of driving a scooter. And to think that those hotshot BMW drivers flashed him those condescending, smug smiles when they saw his not as glamorous vehicle.'Well lookie here, whose smiling now?' Smokes slithered his scooter between the trapped cars with a similar, 'in your face' expression. He felt good. All that pent up grudge he never knew he had against people with nice cars were released. "Narcissism." he cited a text book in his head. People buy unnecessary expensive cars without paying attention to their actual usefulness, but rather their contribution to the fulfillment of some emotional need, such as inflating the driver's perceived social status.
Turn left into Murray Street. "Wha?"he glanced at his iPhone. The gps was on. The updated app has a voice feature."Ah, right." Smokes nudged."Focus, Riley. This is important." he reminded himself. Important indeed. He recalled to his life-changing encounter with that man, Darien - well, 'man' was not the correct term, since that would require him to be human. "A he-vamp." he mused with a chuckle.
The smaller streets had less traffic. In fact, there were no cars around at all. He was driving along a deserted street at 2 am in the morning."The things I do in the name or research" he sighed. There was faint music in the distance. Why was he there again? Oh right, the 'vampire coven' gatherings. Lisa did a whole paper on it once. Ordinary people who embrace the fictional (well, he'll have to find another word to replace that now) vampirism as a religion, going to the extent of getting their teeth sharpened and eyes tattooed so that they can convert, or in their terms 'turn' into a vampire. These 'wannabe vamps', as Smokes called them, are usually seen as outcasts from their own community, therefore they turn to vampires, which are, in fiction, also depicted as outcasts themselves in a desperate search for a sense of belonging.
So many pretend vampires around, there's bound to be a real one in the crowd, right? That man he-vamp Darien couldn't possibly the only vampire in New York."Vampire." Smokes still felt surreal saying it.
He approached the entrance. The door was opened, so he could see the people inside. Dancing, or in actuality, slowly swaying their bodies to the loud gothic music. Smokes took another deep breath. ''Here goes..'' he muttered as he awkwardly pushed his way through the crowd of. Smokes scanned the area, searching. He certainly hadn't thought this through. What exactly was he looking for? How does a real vampire differ from these clowns?
It took a moment before he realized that he wasn't the only one looking. Being the only one without artificial fangs and nose piercings, he stood out like a sore thumb. People were starting to notice. Smokes felt his heart starting to race. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all. ''Damn it Riley, this has gotta be your worst impulsive move. ever.'' he cursed himself. ''Excuse me..'' He shoving his way towards the door, but someone placed their hands on his chest, and slammed him onto the wall.
WHAM. Smokes felt a brief surge of pain running through his back. He opened his eyes to face his assailant. It was a man. Like the others, he had the whole vampire image going on, except he was huge. He reminded Smokes of The Juggernaut from X-men. And now the Juggernaut was glaring at him. Smokes raised his arms instinctively. "A-A-Are you a r-r-eal vampire??.'' he stuttered. He was going to die either way, he decided it was better to die knowing. Juggernaurt lowered his head down to his level. ''Of course I am. Why do you think we're here?'' he said in a rough, low pitched voice. Smokes shook his head. ''I mean like, a real, vampire." he emphasized.
''HUMAN!'' Juggernaut grabbed Smokes under his arm and carried across the room, and thhe people made way for him. Who in their right mind would? .''Whoa! Let me go man, please, I'm still young!'' Smokes pleaded. Juggernaut did not budge. Smokes shut his eyes. ''Oh god, I'm gonna die. This is it. I love you ma. ''
The next thing he felt himself being lifted up into the air and hurled onto the ground. The rough surface of the street scratched against his ass through his jeans. It hurt like hell, but Smokes stayed on the ground, too afraid to move. ''Show up here again and we WILL drink your blood.'' theatened Juggernaut before shutting the door behind him. Still sitting on the ground, Smokes was breathing heavily. Anxiety attack. ''Hooly shit.'' was all he could manage.

[atrb=width,450,true][atrb=border,0,false][cs=0][bg=000000] When people thought of New York, they thought of mainly the good things. Like Broadway plays, and musicals that were bright and beautiful and attracted people like a moth to a flame. One of the most well known spots in the world, Times Square, was located here in New York. The bright billboards of lights and all the cars swirling past in a chaotic symphony of light and sound. Even one of the most tragic events of USA history was here in New York. The twin towers crashing down around the ears of everyone from a terrorist attack. They city itself held millions of people and it was so widely named as the city that never slept. There was always something going on. Something happening. It was a very accurate statement for the city. It had its own life, its own blood flowing through the veins of concrete and steel. Just walking on the street a person could feel the luff humming under their feet. It was also one of those cities where if you walked slowly, there was a major chance of being run over and trampled on. Its fast paced and lively. Bright and lovely.
So if that was the case, why is it that when ever Ali came to visit New York she felt like there was a thick, iron ball, sitting in the center of her stomach? Like her throat was closing up and she couldnt breathe? Of course, she knew the answer to that as well. That answer came into the form of one name. Sevanni Black. He was the bain of her existence and she hated him more then she thought was un-humanly possible from her little body. And it would just so happen that he lived here in New York. Ruling over the more shady joints and under cover schemes like some modern day mob Al Capone. With his ties to the supernatural aspects in life, he was a force to reckon with, and boy did they reckon. Where Ali hated him, Sevanni hated her. They were a constant pain in each others ass, and would do anything possible to piss the other off. Some would say they feared him, and they would have good reason to fear him. Sevanni had a knack of torturing people to get information and he only had very few people that he enjoyed talking with. The others, he would rather gut alive and mount their head on his wall. In fact, that was a threat he had told her more then once. It had yet to happen though, and she was smug about that fact.
"You sure you can handle another shot sweetheart?"
At the voice, Ali lifted her head from the bar counter top, cracking one chocolate brown eye open to stare at him. When the bar tender lifted the shot glass, already filled to the rim with some strong ass whiskey, he grinned and she couldnt help but smile back. "Oh you know I can handle it." She told him with a cheeky smile and wink. Truth was, she frequented this bar pretty often when ever she came to visit New York. Events that occurred always seemed to send her scurrying here, wanting the warmth of liquor burning down her throat. The reason why she could hold so many drinks down was the fact that no alcoholic beverage or medication effected her. Her dead, cold body, was immune to it. She could chug this whole bar down and not feel a damn thing. Not even a buzz, which she so desperately wished she could feel at the moment. Anything would have been nice actually. But she just took the glass from the bar tender, who's name was Ty, and knocked back the drink with one swift swoop. She placed the glass back down on the bar top and slid it back into the waiting hands of Ty.
"You seriously have to tell me your secret sometime Ali. You arent even buzzed and that was your tenth shot."
Another grin graced across her lips and she bubbled out a laugh. "Mmm...Cant tell you all my secrets Ty." She said to him sweetly. Without fail, every time she came here, Ty would ask her how she could hold that much alcohol in her system, and every time she wouldnt tell him why. She had to give him credit for keeping at it, but she also knew that she would never tell him. He would never believe that petite, pixie like woman sitting across from him was a bloodsucking creature of the night. Then again, just one look at Ali and you would never think she was a vampire. She was tiny, only 5' 2" in height, and her weight averaged out to 105. She never gained more, and never weighed less. Her hair was long, curly, and blonde. If you were to straighten out the curls her hair would reach about mid-back, but the way it was, it brushed past her shoulders by a few inches. Her eyes were warm and kind, a chocolate brown that was dark and inviting. But the main factor that would have people brushing her off, was the fact that she looked like she was fifteen years old. Being changed at fifteen, her body was stuck at that of an eternal teenager. Not that she complained. She had a childlike way of thinking, and she had a curvy body, having grown into her looks early. Did she look threatening though? Not even close.
Taking out her wallet, she shuffled out a few dollar bills to pay for the drinks when she felt a hand on top of hers. "Dont worry about it. Tab is on me darling. Just give me an extra good tip next time." Ty told her and then wandered down to the other end of the bar to wash up a glass. He was humming under his breath and it caused her to smile faintly as she slid off the bar stool. Her heels clicked on the wooden floor and giving a small wave to Ty, she was off and back into the night. She had indulged the human side of hers craving, now it was time to be the vampire. The back of her throat felt like a flame was grazing it, and it was a sign she had waited too long to feed. But having acquired her freedom, she didnt want to blow it on just drinking blood and blood and more blood. One human tonight would be enough. She didnt have the patience to track down her normal blood bank and get a few bags of blood from them. So turning the corner, she re-entered the land of the living and the restless. Tons of bodies pressed passed her and she could hear their hearts beating, steady and even, sending the thing she was craving most through their bodies.
Briefly, she could feel a tingle in her fangs and there was a small urge in her that said to just jump them and take the precious liquid. But the better, stronger, part of her was repulsed and shoved down that urge. If there was one thing Ali hated most, it was being a vampire. She hated drinking blood, and not feeling sunlight on her skin and having to track and kill people. But she remedied this horror by blood banks, and in rare cases like today, hunting down a human but leaving them alive and not sucking every last drop from them. This method meant that at time she needed to hunt down several people, but it was worth it. Kept her conscious clear, and kept her from hating herself any more then she already did. The internal struggles for her were something interesting, but could be dealt with at another time. For now, she was hungry. Passing by an alley way, she stopped abruptly when she heard a noise. It sounded like someone was getting on the wrong side of another person, and using her vampire speed she flashed over to where the noise had come from.
The pounding noise of the club though caused her to scrunch her nose in distaste and she almost put her hands over her ears to block out the racket, but her eyes caught sight of the human on the ground first. He was breathing heavily and seemed to be having some sort of anxiety attack. Moving over to him quickly, she knelt down by him and then said, "Hey hey...easy. Breathe." She needed to calm him down first. She gave a gentle smile to him and then offered a hand to help him up. Hopefully he would think her cold skin was from the chill of the night, and since she was only wearing a short skirt and corset top with heels, any normal human woman would be cold. "Im Ali by the way. And it looks to me like you ran into some trouble." Her gaze swept the front doors of the club and she wanted to shake her head at all the people inside that were impersonating being one of her kind. It was all too easy to tell they were all human. There wasnt a single real vampire inside the joint. The wanna be vampires made her gaze go back to the man though. He didnt seem like one of those wanna be's so what was he doing here? Why had he been thrown out?
"Can you sit up or did you hit your head?" She asked him kindly, her voice trusting and sweet. What she was worried about was her eyes however. She knew that by now, since she hadnt fed, they would be burning a bright red color. Almost like a beacon of death. Perhaps since she was outside the club he would think she was another vampire wanna be and that her eyes had contacts in them. Unless of course he had seen them go from brown to red. Then she would be in trouble. But she remained calm, and decided to take this in stride. Make sure he was okay first, deal with the outcome later.
