Kai viewed the room through cold silver-blue narrowed eyes. It had been a while since she had visited New Orleans. The last time had been years ago when she was still a fledgling, no more able to control the bloodlust than a starving shark.
The memories of this place were dark, but definitely not forgotten. Kai simply took them as mistakes to work on and perfect, and so she had. The memories were there to keep Kai from falling into the same killing pattern as before. The same merciless, pointless massacre that she had committed, single-handedly killing over a dozen humans in a few days time. No, Kai had never again let herself lose the control that she now had an iron fist around.
Kai took a sip from her glass, the vodka went down burning, it felt good. The pain is what kept her in this world, made her keep her mind focused on the objective ahead. Kai gazed around at all the poor, hopeless humans that thought they were at the top of the food chain in this world. It made her pity them, their self-centered righteous lives. The pity was not enough to chase away the bloodlust, and that was perfectly acceptable.
The qualities of being a human were still existant. The human id- what drives everyone: the sex-drive, need to feed oneself, the need for self-indulgence, and the self-centered lifestlye- still drove Kai to do things. She had gone over this subject many times in her mind, through the passing years. Kai had come to realize that her kin, vampires, were still very much human.
We are more of a. . . improved branch of the human race. Kai thought, working her confusion out in her head, she needed to be able to understand more about her race, being a coven master. She needed to be able to read her vampires like a book, daring only a few to be able to confuse her. That is why many of us cringe at the thought of "eating" a human. They still have remorse, because they are still more human that I am. Kai herself had felt no remorse about the killing of the human race for years. It was very recently that she had felt compelled to blood a human, to make it her first fledgling.
Kai sighed quietly and took another sip. All this thinking of what she really was- not just a bloodthirsty monster- made her mind ache.
