Selana walked into the pub, her eyes easily adjusting to the low light. Looking around her, she caught the scent of vampire and humans. Tables were filled with human patrons, heads low over their drinks. Selana had never dared to venture into such close proximity with humans, but the need for information and the dark clouds gathering that promised rain had forced her to come inside.
She kept her clutch purse close, hopng her plain attire of a pair of faded jeans and a grey T-shirt with a black trenchcoat wouldn't stand out. Taking a seat at the bar, she contemplated checking her cell. He hadn't called when he said he would--about a few days after he left on business. She figured he'd been busy and left it at that.
It's been nearly two weeks now. Sel dug her phone out and flipped it open. Great. Just what I need--a low battery. She stuffed it back in her purse and sighed, running a hand through her long blonde hair. Stuck at twenty-two years of age, the male attention was something she'd come to take in stride. Fortunately, no one stared now.
She looked up and noticed the bartender. He nodded at her, "You look like you need something."
Selana contemplated mentioning the battery and wondered if he had a pay phone. "A drink would be nice. Red wine, please." As the bartender poured the wine, she glanced around the pub. The sharp smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol filled her nose. The smooth oak wood of the bar was slightly sticky and her mouth twitched.
As the bartender set the wine down and she paid, she couldn't help but wonder if there were vampire covens nearby. Xavier and her had only lived in London for a few months now, and hadn't had time to scout for more of thier kind. She took a small sip of the wine and licked her lips at the fragrant, fruity taste.
She bit her lip softly, not enough to draw blood, and hoped that she had the courage to find more vampires--truthfully the thought of finding vampire covens frightened her yet she knew there was strength in numbers. I can't put others in danger. The werewolf pack that had killed her vampire sire--for reasons she had never found out--might be waiting to strike. Joining a vampire coven would be too dangerous. Xavier, her mate, had known that. Selana took another sip of the wine, a sharp stab of something akin to grief flooded her. But, keeping her face serene, she hoped that he was alright. "Just search," she whispered to herself, "searching won't hurt anybody."

He sat there drinking his whiskey. Adrian wasn't a hard drinker but he felt like he needed it today, alcohol gave him a boost when he didn't feel like blood. He watched as the women stared at him, he knew it was only because he was a model and women plus drinks equal very easy to get too. As he turned away he could hear his phone going off, He opened the message and read it quietly. He could hear footsteps getting closer so he looked up. He got up slowly and the footsteps stop, the young lady just stood there looking at him like she was probably hoping he would sit with her and drink.
She watched Adrian as he got his coat on and was about to leave before she said something."Um, you're Adrian Monroe. right? The model?" He looked at her with a slight smile. "Yes, i am. I'm sorry but I'm in a hurry, maybe another time." She watched grabbed on to his arm and tugged it. "wait, don't you want to know my name?" He knew she was clearly drunk so he thought he would be nice and stay a while. He would just have to tell Charlotte to meet him at his place later on. He knew she wouldn't be happy waiting for him for another hour, he hadn't seen her for a year and he was very anxious. "Why not, shall we sit down?" With a swift move of his hands, he signaled her to sit down with him. She graciously accepted and babbled for what seemed like forever.
Finally she began to become dizzy and bid farewell to Adrian. "Would you like me to call you a cab? it's not safe walking home at night alone." He smiled knowing she would and checked the time while he called. It was already 2am, Charlotte was going to hate him for this. Once the girl was gone he ordered one more drink, slowly drinking it as he Called Charlotte. "Hello?" Her voice was quiet and sounded like she had just woke up. "I'll be there shortly. I got sorta.... held up." He stared down at his drink and he swirled it around in the cup. He could hear the irritation in her voice, she never did like to wait. "Fine, just hurry please. I didn't fly all the way from New York for nothing. I miss you... She sounded a bit sad. "I know, i miss you too. I'll be there as soon as i can. They hung up quickly and he knew that he should be going. He tipped the bartender and was on his way.

Selana sighed into the glass of wine, hoping that no one would ask what was wrong. If anyone got too close, she was afraid of a bloodbath. She hadn't fed in a few days and the constant buffet of human blood that surrounded her, was beginning to make her throat ache. She wished the wine didn't remind her so much of blood.
Selana quickly finished her wine, and got up to leave. Searching for vampire covens would be easier then just staying put. The heartbeats of live humans was getting to be too much. As she left, she noticed a young male vampire speak into his cell phone, get up to tip the bartender, and leave. She debated on following him--maybe he knew where she could be safe, maybe he knew the whereabouts of the werewolf pack that had her trapped in this constant game of cat and mouse? He did look familiar but she couldn't place the face. Had she seen him on the streets before? In a magazine modeling a new brand of too-expensive designer clothing? Maybe, maybe not. She had stopped looking for familiar faces--human and vampire alike--as the decades passed. It hurt to see things change, the nostalgia a feeling not alien to her.
What happened to not putting others in danger? I clenched my fists. This might be my only chance! An image of Xavier flashed across her mind. It's for his sake.
Selana left the pub and watched the young vampire walk down the street. The streetlights threw him in sharp profile. He looked maybe nineteen or twenty with grungy clothes. Looks too confident for his own good.
She didn't want to frighten him into fighting--the last thing she needed was a hostile link to a coven and maybe a link to the werewolves--a spy of some sort. She shuddered and hurried up to him. "Hey! Wait up!" Best to appear as human as possible.

He could feel the presence of a vampire, he knew that she was close but he kept walking. He could hear a faint voice "Hey! Wait up!" The smell was familiar, it was that vampire he had sensed before. He turned around and looked at her. "Do i have business with you? If not i am kind of in a hurry to meet someone."
He did not want to have another fight like the one he had the night before but he also didn't want to be chased by the paparazzi again so he kept his glasses on.
He analyzed the girl head to toe trying to see if she was the type to hurt people or if she was as friendly as Charlotte was. His eyes were getting sore from wearing the glasses so he slowly took them off, still watching the girl making sure for any sudden movements.
His head was pounding and all he wanted to do was go home and lay down with Charlotte but first he wanted to make sure everything was alright with the girl. Her eyes reflected sadness and it worried him as if she had somewhere she needed to go.

She had his attention but now she didn't know what to tell him. Just ask if he knows where to find a coven or if he's part of one. "Sorry to bother you, but I'm looking for..." Her voice dropped to a whisper, "A coven." She lowered her eyes and her hand instinctively went to her throat to fidgit with an oval-shaped locket. "I need help tracking down...someone. Someone close. It's urgent."
Selana didn't know whether to just tell him the complete story or just the bare bones of it. That her mate had left on business and never returned. That she was possibly being hunted, her every move possibly tracked by werewolves. Why do they want me anyway? What am I to them? My sire died almost 52 years ago! It's him they wanted...but why? What did he do to anger them so badly?
She didn't know who to trust anymore and the thought frightened her. She looked into his face and keeping her voice low, told him the situation "I'm looking for a coven because I'm afraid my mate's been taken captive by...werewolves." She shuddered, "He left on business about two weeks ago and hasn't been seen since. I called the hotel and and they said he never checked in--"
Biting back the urge to turn and walk away, Selana wished she'd done the right thing. Why did you do that? Her mind scolded, he could be the enemy.
The dark clouds that threatened rain, began to spit. You don't even know his name, idiot! "I'm sorry I should've..." Tentatively, she held out her hand, "I'm Selana Marrow." She sighed, flustered, "I'm sorry--I just..." She laughed, "I'm a nervous wreck, I know."
The sounds of the city quieted as the storm built up and worsened. The rumble of thunder sounded amidst the rain slapping the rooftops.
