If you want proof the world is ending, just look out your front door.
Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad, but it sure seems like it. Demons, once thought to be mere tales to scare the children, walk the earth, and at the moment we don’t know how to force them back into Hell. But maybe I should back up.
The Before
The five races of Earth – humans, mages, children of the moon, nightwalkers, and shapeshifters – have always lived side by side. Maybe it isn’t always in peace, but we have always shared this planet. And in the older days, we shared the planet with another race too – demons. There are an uncountable number of subraces of demons… incubi, succubi, harpies, sirens, higher level entities with the ability to possess, djinns… the list goes on and on.
That was before the year 0 though. At the year zero all major covens on Earth banded together to create an alternate dimension (called Hell) to which all demons were banished, and the portal to that world was sealed forever. A new calendar of time was then started, to mark the period of time before the division and then after the division.
The Accident
And then in 2010, one of the more secretive mage covens, Paradise Seekers, stumbled on an ancient tome… and translated it wrong. They believed the tome told of a way to open up the doorway to paradise. Instead, it tore open a portal to Hell. The coven was killed in the initial blast, their blood fuel for the opening portal.
At first, no one knew what was going on. Odd creature sightings, instances of all forms of violence skyrocketing, people claiming something not quite human tried to seduce them… reports just kept flooding in. So many in the general populace had begun to believe that demons were just a bedtime story created to scare little children that nobody really believed what their senses told them, but within a few days the pieces were put together.
The Now
That was a month ago, and we are no closer to fixing the problem. Demons just keep pouring into our world from the portal, and other smaller portals have begun popping up as the seal between our two worlds starts to unravel. Some of them have been relatively peaceful, but others are causing mayhem, pissed off at being locked away from the world for so long.
We don’t have the ability or know-how to close the portals or fix the seal. We’re still working on how to tell the possessed from the normal, or how to permanently banish demons from their host. The one saving grace is that not all demons are causing trouble; some are actually petitioning the government to allow them to live in the country just like any other person.

We either have to figure out how to integrate demons into our society, or find a way to send them back. Whatever happens, will you stick around to help us?
