Desmond suddenly fell to the outskirts of the conversation as the two seemed to be completely unaware of his presence despite the fact that he was standing right between them both. It looked as if they were having a staring eye contest while they threw double sided comments back and forth like a ping pong ball. Desmond's gaze was swinging back and forth between the two like the pendulum of a clock as he listened to the two of them converse with each other. He noticed Codie call Dani “Danielle” and cringed slightly as she did so. Desmond had called Dani that before and she didn’t like it at all but to his surprise she didn’t react to it at all. His eyes narrowed slightly in confusion and suspicion as he tried to figure out what exactly was going on between the two. They seemed to be civil enough with each other but he was pretty sure they were putting the saying kill them with kindness into play here.
Codie had asked where Dani and he had met but he wasn’t entirely sure who she was addressing. Seeing it as an opportunity to jump back into the conversation again he lifted a hand as he was about to tell the story when Dani suddenly broke into a narrative of their meeting, her version was embellished a bit of course, intended to take a stab back at Codie. Desmond came to the conclusion that he wasn’t going to get a word in on this conversation and went off into his own thoughts instead as Codie and Dani’s voices faded away to a low hum.
Dessie was always a quiet person and rarely spoke much of his feelings or other happenings of his life. It was always don’t ask don’t tell with him and he didn’t generally bring up his personal life unless someone asked and they usually didn’t. There was much about his past both Codie and Dani still had no clue about and he found it a bit odd that no one had asked him yet. It made him wonder about the things Codie hadn’t told him and what secrets of her past were still hidden from him. Truthfully it didn’t matter to him. He would always love her despite anything her past held but curiosity is a persistent little bugger and he came to the conclusion that one of these nights Codie and him would have to talk about it all.
Desmond noticed the hum of chatter had stopped and he snapped back to reality to find both Codie and Dani staring at him as if awaiting him to respond to something. Great, NOW they want my input. As he scanned their faces and saw the raised eyebrows and slight frowns he began to feel like he was in the principal’s office for calling little Becky stupid or something. “What?” he asked confused as to what exactly they wanted him to say and at what he had done in such a short time to already be in trouble. Desmond didn’t realize that they were both wondering why he never spoke of the other before but he was sure as hell about to find out.

When Codie had noticed the young girl was hurt by what she had said, she started to feel rather bad for even opening her mouth. Codie was never really one to pick fights, especially not when she didn't even know the other person. Unfortunately though... words can't be taken back once they come out of your mouth. Codie listened as Dani spoke about how Desmond had saved her, she couldn't stop a smile from forming on her face. It was a lovely thing he did for the girl, there was no doubt about that, and she loved him for it. Her smile however didn't last long when Dani said that Desmond hadn't mentioned her at the time. Codie didn't like to admit it or show it but having now known that, it did upset her a little. Not only did he keep herself from Dani, he also did the same thing to her. In her books... that wasn't right.
Codie turned her attention to Desmond, rather peeved now. She wasn't sure if Dani felt the same way but she was going to be asking questions and she was going to be asking them NOW. She watched him, waiting for his reaction on her looking at him. What? she heard him ask. Codie folded her arms across her chest, she wasn't pleased with him at all. It had annoyed her that he had decided to keep all of this a secret... not only from herself but from Dani too. She finally understood why this young girl acted so bitter towards her and she didn't like it. " I think you have some explaining to do Dessie" she told him, using his nickname she'd recently gave to him but not in her usual tone... she was hurt, but she was also ticked off, " Why didn't you tell Dani about me?" This time Codie hadn't even noticed she'd called Danielle by her nickname. She was too focused on finding out what his excuse will be.
It had upset her because she had thought Desmond was different. Why would he not tell Dani about them? She understood that he was being nice changing her tyre but wanting her number in exchange? that had bothered her. Codie wasn't the type of girl to run away and cry this time, after finding out her ex boyfriend had cheated on her a few years back she had ran from it... but since then, she had hardened up. And she wasn't about to run without getting the answers she needed. The answers she deserved.

Codie had said he had some explaining to do and Desmond scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion. He had missed the majority of the conversation having zoned out and all. Inwardly he smiled at the way a woman’s mind worked, they don’t allow you to get involved in the conversation but they whip up a pop quiz about it later and expect you to ace it cold turkey. The look on his face must have tipped off that he didn’t know what they were talking about because Codie asked why he never told Dani about her and by her tone he could tell she was quite upset. Desmond tilted his head in confusion and treaded slowly, not knowing what this was really all about. “I did…………you want it in writing? I’m sure Dani still has the letter I sent her talking all about you………about us.” His toned was laced with the usual sarcasm but when he spoke about them as a couple the sarcasm fizzled out to be replaced by adoration.
Though Codie’s face softened slightly she still stood resolute with her arms crossed and a look on her face that seemed to say “And?” Desmond scratched his head trying to figure what else she could possible want to hear. It took him a moment to realize that she was talking about BEFORE they left for England together. “You mean before don’t you? Why I didn’t tell Dani about you BEFORE that?” He shook his head in disbelief that HE was getting scolded about this of all things when Codie was nowhere to be found during the time he hung out with Dani. SHE had walked out on HIM and then now wants an explanation why he didn’t mention her to Dani when he was quite sure she hadn’t exactly spread the good word about him around. Her family didn’t even know where she was until a few minutes ago and he was pretty sure they definitely didn’t know who she was with……what she was with. The cherry on top of it all was the fact that he hadn’t even officially met Codie until AFTER he had met Dani. He had helped Dani with her tire prior to running into Codie at the marina so he couldn’t exactly mention his future love of his life to Dani at that moment now could he?
He let out a chuckle as he calmly and kindly spoke his thoughts out loud to her. “I would’ve mentioned you to Dani had I even met you at that point Codie…..I apologize for not going back to the future with Michael J. Fox to meet to so I could tell Dani about you. And in all fairness are you able to honestly say to me that you have told your family that you’re dating a vampire?” He saw the guilty as charged look across her face and smiled, hoping this whole situation was resolved and they could get back to enjoying the rest of the night. He had to admit though, Codie and Dani both seemed to be a bit closer already, the fact that Codie called her Dani didn’t escape his ears and if it took the two of them gaining up on him to make them friends then he didn’t mind it at all.
He looked from Codie to Dani and back again waiting to see if there were any rebuttals left or if they had any other questions about his personal life. He grabbed Codie and pulled her close playfully “You know……you look pretty damn cute when you’re ticked off.” He gave her a loving smooch on the lips. “I love you Lassie.” Not wanting to leave Dani out of the picture he pried his gaze from Codie and pulled Dani into a little hug of her own. “You too kid.” Now that everyone was in good spirits he started walking along the channel again. “Well? Let’s enjoy the rest of the evening now shall we?”

When Desmond looked dumb founded and said 'What' Dani snorted softly. and I thought Vampires would be more perceptive then that. Well looks like no matter how old they get men are still...men. she thought, annoyed with the fact that he didn't see what he'd done wrong. Dani laughed inwardly as she and Codie both seemed to mimic each others actions, Codie seemed to be rather irritated herself at Desmond now for him not telling Dani anything about her. Both women had their arms folded across there chest and their stance definitely showed they were angry by his actions. Funny how something so little made people have something in common, Dani wasn't as irritated and bitter toward her as in the very beginning, since she saw how much Desmond not telling them about the other. Dani listened as Codie said that Desmond had explaining to do, on why he hadn't mentioned her to Dani before.
Dani was about to ask Desmond the same question but he started to defend himself, although the fact that he was going to be sarcastic about it probably wasn't the way to go he asked if Codie wanted it in writing where he had told her about them and went on to say that Dani still probably had the letter. Dani couldn't help herself she rolled her eyes, sure she had the note but why would he just assume she kept the damn thing. Dani watched the interaction between Codie and Desmond, she wasn't pleased by his reply to her question and he realized that moments later he let out a soft laugh.
Dani felt her eyebrows pull together in confusion about he would be laughing, he went on to say that he would have mentioned her if he'd known her before he'd met Dani, then he asked if her family knew the truth about him being a vampire. Dani looked over at Codie to see her with a guilty look on her face. I'd say that's a no. she thought at first wondering why it would be a big deal but then remembering that werewolves didn't really like vampires. Dani smiled at the fact that apparently Desmond and Codie didn't get that message, they were supposed to hate each other but instead they were in love and happy. Dani watched as Desmond grabbed Codie and pulled her too him, she took this moment to turn away and ignore their mushy disgusting romantic moment. Truth was Dani still had a crush on Desmond, though it seemed to be fading rather quickly especially with the public displays of affection she was witnessing. Suddenly Dani was being pulled into a hug of her own and she smiled as Desmond said he loved her too.
Stupid vampire and you damn charming crap. she thought as most of her anger melted away in his quick hug, he was still her best friend and she couldn't stay angry with him for long even if she did still hurt, but she decided to shelf that hurt and talk to him more about it when they were alone sometime. Dani watched as Desmond started walking away slowly, wanting to continue his stroll obviously now that the fighting was over. Dani looked over at Codie and gave her a weak smile. "I"m glad Desmond has someone to make him happy. He's a great guy and he deserves that happiness so I guess I'm trying to say if I seemed rude." she said quietly, she still wasn't fully on board with the happy love train but at the same time she loved Desmond and wanted him to be happy. Deep down Dani knew she and Desmond were not ever going to be a couple, although she couldn't help dream sometimes, still Dani would rather have him as a friend then not have him in her life at all. After a moment between herself and Codie, Dani took off running to catch up with Desmond, she looped her arm through one of his and leaned in. "hmmm she can get feisty when you do something wrong. I think I could get used to her." she said softly trying to be a good friend.

Codie still felt rather annoyed but now she also had an enormous amount of guilt put upon her as she listened to him ask if she'd told her family yet If I told them you'd probably have two very angry wolf brothers after you by now Codie thought to herself deciding not to say it, her and her brothers were pretty close siblings and on the most part they were very protective of her as she was to them. It'd come with the wolf gene, to protect the ones you loved at all costs. Codie had her brothers and parents that she placed under the category to protect, along with innocent humans... and now of course, she had Desmond, with whom she knew she'd protect with all of her heart and soul, even if that meant dying.
Codie hated fighting with Desmond above all she hated that the two of them were meant to live two separate lives. She couldn't do that anymore now that she knew Desmond... Codie felt connected to him in a way that she could not describe. It was a strange feeling, one that she never questioned though. She was too in love to care. She'd remained standing there with her arms folded as she came back out of her thoughts, she noticed Dani looked peeved at Desmond too which made her feel a bit better that she at least had someone on her side, even if the two of them hadn't originally seen eye to eye. Codie felt Desmond pull her in closer and told her that she was cute when she was ticked off... she had tried to fight off the smile that now formed on her face. She could never stay mad at Desmond for too long, it actually pleased her that he had the ability to do that as anger was often a slight issue for anyone that could turn into a four legged creature with a serious biting attitude. "That's what all my victims say" she replied in a joking manner and a wink before she returned the kiss as her way of saying she was sorry for assuming the worst, " I love you too".
Codie surprisingly didn't feel very jealous as Desmond pulled Dani in for a hug and told her he loved her too. She didn't really understand why she had thought that there was something going on, clearly by the way Desmond had looked at her since arriving in England... even before then, that he only had eyes for her. Codie watched as Desmond slowly started walking away from them, leaving her and Dani standing there alone. She turned her attention to the young blond as she heard her speak. Codie smiled warmly at her as she apologized, although she knew Dani shouldn't be the only one to do so. " I'm sorry too Dani" she told her softly, " I can get a little carried away sometimes... if I did, I didn't mean to hurt you" she was going to add a comment about promising not to bite but she wasn't aware if Dani knew what she was so instead she kept it at that. Codie casually walked as Dani ran ahead of her, she was too busy enjoying every moment she got when she could be a normal girl on a beautiful full moonless night.
When she reached them she took Desmond's free hand in hers, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. After what had happened it had come to Codie's attention that she did know nothing really about Desmond, how did he even become a Vampire? It interested her a little bit... Codie didn't know a great deal about Vampires however they had always interested her more than what she often lead on. She never could see the difference in Wolves and Vampires no matter how many times others tried to explain to her. Codie also knew that her life to Desmond wasn't exactly an open book, she wasn't huge on spilling her life story... a lot of the facts she herself didn't even want to know, but she was willing to share it with Desmond when the time came around. She sighed softly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.

Desmond smiled as Codie’s anger melted away and she made a joke that all her victims said she was sexy when she was angry. He of course had to mix some of his sarcasm into it all and added, “If by victim you mean one of love then I’ll I’d be your victim any day.” Desmond paused for a moment as he cocked his head overdramatically as if in thought “Wait a moment, what do you mean by ALL of your victims?” He held in a laugh as he raised an eyebrow inquisitively to her.
He was glad the animosity was over with which was marked by the kiss they just shared. As he turned to walk away he was glad for his heightened sense of hearing because he got to listen in on the exchange between his love and best friend. He grinned from ear to ear as Dani said he was a great guy and happy he had found Codie. Desmond was glad to hear the two exchange apologies and make peace with one another. Not wanting them to think he had been listening in on their conversation he began to whistle lightly as he walked along the channel. He heard the pitter patter of feet through the sand before Dani had caught up with him and put her arm through his. Dani commented on Codie’s feistiness before saying she could get use to her. Desmond smiled at Dani, glad that she approved of the love of his life. “Yea, she can get her fur in a bunch but I love her for it.”
He felt the warm touch of Codie’s hand as it slid into his own followed by a kiss to his cheek. She gently squeezed his hand and he gave hers a gentle squeeze in return. Words were not necessary between Codie and Desmond to express their love for each other. The presence of the other was enough to know that they were loved. As he walked hand in hand with Codie and arm in arm with Dani he savored the feeling that everything was perfect in his life in this moment and seemed to fit into place beautifully. He had found friendship in Dani and love in Codie and now the two of them seemed to find friendship of their own with each other. The past had become the present and Desmond could only hope that when the present became the future he would still be standing between the two people he loved most in the world.
