Mackenzie skipped after the black bear cub. She followed him into the hollow log and got her fingers around his stubby tail. The cub scrambled to free itself, crying and slashing it's claws. The vampire giggled, then released her grip and allowed the cub a head start before she continued the chase after him. Mackenzie crawled out the other end of the log and fell into a crouch behind a tree stump. She watched the bears progress until he was out of sight. She swung her pig-tailed french braids behind her shoulders, and stood to her full height of 3'8'' Mackenzie brushed the knees of her powder pink overalls -- now dirtied up since she'd been running amok in the woods since sundown.
Mack was lost. This was her second day in the woods. Yesterday she wandered in, attracted by a bushel of pretty flowers. She encountered the bear cub last night, the poor thing was lost as well, and began a game of cat and mouse. It was fun then, but now she began to tire of it. She figured if she followed the bear cub in, she'd eventually follow it to a way out. Now she could hear his claws scratching against the dirt floor in his mad dash to get away. She knew exactly where he was, despite the lack of visual. She waited until she could hear his feet no longer before continuing on with a slow walk.
The vampire was hungry. She fed on a rabbit when the sun went down and she could continue on her quest for the bear cub. She was saving her appetite for the cub. As soon as he led her to a way out of here, she planned to eat the little guy. She looked up at the sky now that the canopy of trees overhead didn't block the view. Not a star in the sky, but one very full moon. She bit her lower lip, eyebrows creasing as she troubled herself with the thought of werewolves. She'd been warned by many -- stay indoors during full moons. Mackenzie loved werewolves, she hated to think they became ravenous beasts under the light of the full moon.
She quickened her pace, and knew she was closing in on the bear cub when she could hear him again. She ducked behind another tree and poked her head around. The little cub was sitting, wiping his eyes with his paws. Behind him, Mackenzie saw her way out. Grinning broadly, Mackenzie stepped from behind the tree. "I had so much fun playing hide and seek with you, Mr. Teddy. But my tummy is hungry, now," she vocalized sweetly. Approaching the cub, the tiny animal looked up from his rubbing and whined. He started backing up on his bottom away from the vampire. Mackenzie was behind him instantly. She dove at the cub and locked her arms around his middle. The cub squirmed and clawed at the vampire, but just before Mackenzie could sink her fangs into his furry neck, she heard a loud grunt behind her.
She released the cub and spun around. Mr. Teddy found his mama bear, and mama bear wasn't liking the scene at all. The cub galloped behind his mother who was on two feet now, snapping her jaws and slashing her claws through the air. Mackenzie swallowed hard and started backing up.
Awooo!
The vampire knew what was behind her. She froze in her tracks, keeping her eyes on mama bear who was preparing for attack. A skulking werewolf who had caught Mack's scent a while back had finally caught up to her.
