When Edward left Bella standing in the woods, claiming that he no longer wanted her, her world fell apart. He thought what he was doing was for her own good, for her protection, but little did he know that when he left, someone else arrived in town. Make that two someones. The redheaded vampire Victoria has not forgotten about the day Edward killed James, her mate, and she feels it right only to return the favor. She’s been stalking the woods of Forks and La Push, looking for a way to get to Bella. Of course, with the Quileute wolf pack patrolling the area 24/7, that’s much easier said than done. She’s not alone, however. A woman from Jasper’s past has also arrived in the area – Maria has come looking for the one that got away. Of course, since the Cullens left, there was nothing for her to find. However, instead of simply leaving, she has a different idea.

Victoria is busy in Seattle, building a newborn army, something that was once Maria’s specialty. She’s offered her services, knowing that if they can draw Edward back to protect Bella, his family, Jasper included, shouldn’t be far behind. There’s only one problem. He isn’t coming. You see, Jacob hasn’t let Bella out of his sight. Not only is there one crazed bloodsucker out there, but two, and soon to be plenty more where they came from. So after she jumped off the cliff, he took her straight back to the Reservation instead of her house, where Alice was waiting. As she never arrived, and word that a funeral was being prepared, Alice assumed the worst and left Forks. Eventually, word reached Edward, who knew he could not live in a world where Bella didn’t exist. He went to the Volturi and asked for death. They agreed to give him just that, but under one condition: he must give them one year of service. As much as he did not want to ever join the Volturi, his desire to die was greater, and so he agreed. Aro intends to test his manipulation skills in attempts to make Edward's stay a little more permanent.

The Cullens are under the impression Bella is dead and that's something that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon. Victoria and Maria are growing stronger then anticipated, and with no reason to look into Victoria's future... The outcome of Isabella Swan remains at the hands of fate. What happens when the pack is out numbered, and Washington's death toll rises to an alarming amount?
