Wandering around New York City at night alone was not safe for a little girl. Mackenzie LeRouge had the body of an 8 year old, but she was certainly not a little girl. She was a woman of 24 in an 8 year old body. However, by no means did she have a 24 year old mind. She knew when loved one's around her were growing up and she remained the same as she'd ever been, that there was something wrong with her. She knew what she was at the time -- a vampire, but she didn't understand that she'd never age. When she discovered the sad news, she made her own decision to keep the mindset of an 8 year old. If she allowed her mind to grow with her body, she knew she'd be miserable. But that's not to say she was never in a melancholy mood. Tonight she was in one of those moods.
Children didn't go wandering in the big apple alone at night. She knew this, which is why she was out and about now. Mack had a habit or rebelling her frozen child's body in any way possible. Last night she stole woman's size eight shoes, tonight she was hitting the streets. She knew the easiest away to get around was to look like she belonged to someone. Mack wanted to be difficult, so when people saw a child skipping down the sidewalk, this induced many worried looks her way.
The small vampire ducked into a side alley to take a break. She occupied herself by reading the graffiti on the walls and tracing the chunky letters with her finger. Spying a rat a few feet away, Mack sneered at the rodent and he scuttled away. She despised the creatures, they bothered her if they were within a few feet of her. Deciding to leave the alley from out the other end in case any more rats showed up, Mack flattened her orange dress around her legs and set off at a skip. She wasn't far from the exit when a figure stepped out in front of it and blocked the way. Mackenzie skidded to a halt at his feet and looked up at him with curious green eyes. "'Scuse me," she asked politely. "A little girl like you should be wandering around," was the response she got. Mackenzie scowled and crossed her arms over her chest. "Go awa-- HEY!" The man grabbed Mackenzie's wrist and pulled the little vampire into vice-like arms.
