“It is a lonely black rock of exceptional beauty, an isle of shadowed beaches and red wood...”[/align]
It's also a home for exiles, where every attack of the alien menace called Thread puts both dragonriders and those they fight to protect at risk of their lives. But the settlers of Mavros are stubborn, remaining despite all the odds against them - and because of this, their courage finds no equal among all the weyrs of Pern.
Mavros is an RPG open to all players, based on a series of classic science fantasy novels by Anne McCaffrey but accessible to those who have not read them as well. Basic setting info is posted in our "Getting Started" section, to give newcomers a quick introduction to Pern - since we only have original characters running around, and no canons, it's only a matter of learning the same amount you'd have to for any original scifi or fantasy RPG.
We're rated PG-13, have been trundling on at a steady pace since this spring, and feature a small, friendly, tight-knit community where members of all ability and experience levels are welcome. Hatchings, where your character can try to Impress a dragon, are not the be-all and end-all of the game: we do our best to put as much emphasis as possible on site-wide plots, like inter-weyr politics, rider training, festivals and Threadfall. The focus is on developing our characters together over the long term, and over the course of a story: Mavros was founded with the intention to formally conclude someday in mind. The nature of that conclusion, however - whether the island settlement will founder or maintain its independence, and what mark it will finally end up having on the history of Pern - is up to our members.
What role would you like to play at Mavros? Character creation options abound. It's possible to play a crafter, a candidate, a dragonrider, a hyper-intelligent dolphin or even an exceptionally cranky ten foot feline... So if anything above has caught your interest, you might want to stop by! New writers are always welcome...
