Leaning her head back against the wall she sighed heavily and rubbed her eyes. This was so stressful. And she needed to get back to working. But Mena was crying and she couldnt find someone to look after her. And she was already having a hard time getting them to agree to work at the restaurant even though they really needed the money. The pack size was dwindling down so fast it was scary. And she blamed herself. She had to look at this way, Caleb and Nix werent coming back. And no one knew where Tillie and Evey were.
There were so few left of them. It was sad. But she would do what ever it took to keep the remainder of them alive. When Pat had been alive he had a pack fund. A very large bank account with a ton of money in there that the pack could live off of for years. Maybe even centuries. But what they hadnt been expecting, was for the pack to grow so large and then the war to come around. The war had eaten away at the fund. Most of it had been used up by the end of the war. What little had remained had been around for the pack currently.
Well to her horror the account had went to zero money yesterday. And thats because she went shopping for food since the fridge was basically empty. They had some food that would last a few more days but she knew she had to find a new way to get that cash flow again. None of them but Damien had jobs. And that was a problem. A problem that needed to be solved. But Damien couldnt hire on the whole pack and she would never allow them to live off of him. He had his own problems that he needed that money for.
But since there were three new pups in the house, she couldnt let them wait it out and wait for a job. She needed to think of a way to get money and fast. While she had been thinking in her tree outside one night, she had realized what she needed to do. Paris was a tourist place. It catered to them. So why not take some profit from it? So the idea of a restaurant appeared in her mind. Nothing to big or fancy. And she wouldnt need to hire a chef. They could all cook in this damn house. Except for maybe Nix when she lived here. That food was bad. You couldnt even feed that to animals because it would be animal abuse.
Thinking of Nix brought a fresh wave of pain to her and she had to suck in a breath slightly. She missed that girl. Deeply. And she knew she couldnt get her friend back like in the old days. She was a vampire know and she still belonged to Sevanni Black. And no matter how much she loved her, she would never allow a vampire to step foot into the house. It was a hard fact she had to swallow every day when the thought of her blonde best friend came into her head.
Even if she was here, she would have made a mess and Kat would have had to clean it up. She could see Nix walking around with an apron and then knocking a costumer off their seat if they said something wrong. And she couldnt exactly go send her to cook anything. They would be sued off their ass. Just those few thoughts made her smile. God she did miss her. But she couldnt change anything now. She needed to move on and think about the others.
So she had went to a building that was for sale, bought it off of the money she had gained from selling her mustang and started the business. It took only a day or so to get everything they needed into the place. The tables and the kitchen in the back and the menu and the food they needed for the menu items. It had all been taken care of by her. And today was the first day they were open. It had taken a while to think of a name. But she had bugged Tristan to have him help her think of something. And they finally came up with, Ella le Loup. Which meant Ella the Wolf. It was named after the former Alphess who Kat still missed dearly.
The restaurant would be open six days out of the week. Every day but Sunday. It opened at eight in the morning and closed at ten at night. And she had told the pack that they each needed to take rotating shifts for working in it. She alone couldnt manage it. And maybe she could hire a few other people to help that didnt belong to the pack. They would need all the help they could get. Today she had let the pack members decide if they wanted to help. She had hired two human workers and they were helping out the tourists that had walked in.
To her surprise they were pretty busy seeing as they had just opened. But that was a good thing. Maybe business would stay this good. And if it did stay this good she could hire more people and maybe not have to worry about working anyway. For now though, she would help out.
She picked Mena up gently, and rocked her, trying to keep her from crying. She knew that her daughter preferred her father and that she would one day have Tristan wrapped around her little finger. But her husband was MIA at the moment. After a few minutes of soothing tones and rocking she got Mena back to sleep and set her back down in the crib in her office with Scamp and Aura. She checked on them regularly and if anyone even went near that office without her permission she all about chopped their heads off.
Leaning back against the wall again she closed her eyes and tried to calm down once more. Be relaxed. Her peace was shattered though as she heard the door open and smelt Damien walk in. She opened one eye and raised an eyebrow at him. "What are you doing here? I thought you couldnt work today?" She asked him, slight annoyance in her tone. He just smirked at her and shook his head. "Thought I would pay a small visit and take the pups off your hands. Take them back to the house. My club doesnt open until later."
She rolled her eyes at him and chuckled slightly. "I swear you stick around just to annoy me." She replied to him and watched as he leaned against the wall next to her. "Nah. You love me Kat. Admit it. You would be sad to see me go. Its my charm that you cant resist." His grin made her smile slightly and she wapped him upside the head as he walked past her to get the three pups. "Charm my ass."
Damien didnt stay long and as soon as he had the pups he left with a simple nod of goodbye. In all honesty she would be sad to see him go if he ever left the pack. He was a good guy and she liked his personality when he wasnt being mopey. Maybe he was finally moving on. She hadnt seen him this bright in a long time. And his eyes had been a light gray gold color. Meaning he wasnt really in a certain mood but more towards happy. And that was good.
A few minutes after Damien walked out a human woman walked up to her and smiled. "Excuse me. What are these here?" She asked and pointed to a shelf that held some items. Kat had also decided that a little gift spot wouldnt hurt. But this wasnt any old gift spot. Walking around the podium she had been behind she went over to the shelf and smiled. "Depends on which one you are talking about. These here, are vampire fangs made into a necklace. This vial has werewolfs blood in it. And these are werewolf claw necklaces. Plus we have rabbit feet and wolf paintings."
The womans eyes widened slightly and she let her finger slide down one of the wolf claws attached to the chain. "You arent serious are you? You dont believe in that stuff right?" The woman asked her and she had to hold in a laugh. Oh if only the human knew. "I do actually. My whole family does. Im rather fond of werewolves. Not to much of vampires. In fact my family goes out and hunts down the vampires and kills them for sport. We pluck the fangs right out." The womans face was priceless. She laughed slightly and shook her head. "Im kidding. But these are real."
The woman looked a little more at each and then turned back to Kat. "Do they do anything?" Kat nodded and then pointed to each in turn. "The vampire fangs are just a fun item to have. Maybe tell your friends a werewolf Alphess sold them to you. The necklaces with the vials and the blood are for protection as well as the wolf claw. Werewolves are very good luck around here. I hear that there is a werewolf pack that guards the city. You will sleep protected by them. Guarantee it. And the rabbits foot..well..Your old fashioned form of luck."
With a slight nod the woman bought one of each item. "For myself and my grandkids." She told Kat as she rung her up and told her the cost for the items. Putting them in a bag she smiled and handed them over to the woman and watched her leave the restaurant and place the wolfs claw around her neck. She had meant it when she said she would sleep protected. The vials of blood were for scenting reasons. For now, they each held her own blood in them. A vampire would smell it and if they were smart they would leave the humans wearing them alone.
It was a warning to them. The Alphess is watching. But if they were stupid enough to attack the human, the vial would break in the struggle and someone would come to her rescue seeing as they would smell the blood. And the scent of werewolf would be all over the woman. Vampires hated that smell and would never drink their blood. Hardly ever wanted to get close to them. Plus, the wolf claw could be used as a weapon. The vampire fangs were just what she had said. A trophy prize. Showing who was boss around here.
She herself had on a pair of vampire fangs. They were the fangs from the very first vampire she had ever killed. They were her prize and she would wear them always. She wished to add a few more though. Such as the fangs from Aubrey Mayor and Sevanni Black and the vampire that had killed her family. Where ever the hell that vampire was. If she ever killed her sister and Rose, their fangs would be added here as well. But she knew that was never going to happen. She couldnt kill her family. It was against everything she had ever learned and her morals.
Family was family no matter what. She didnt have to like it though and that didnt mean she was weak. She was a kick ass bitch who didnt take no for an answer when she wanted something. You didnt mess with her and she sure as hell wasnt going soft. Taking a small breath in she went back behind the podium to wait for someone else that needed her.
