Quadrillen. – A square dance of French origin composed of five sections and performed by four couples. The year is 1814 and George, the Prince Regent, has been on the throne for three years, ruling in his mad father's stead. England is still at war with the French, but victory looks likely. Napoleon has been forced back to France and the Allies are preparing to enter Paris. In London, March has arrived and with it the Season, the social high point of the year for the British aristocracy and gentry. Here begins an endless round of balls, assemblies, theatre parties, military reviews, masquerades, dances, routs, and alfresco breakfasts. For those upper-class families with a country seat and children to marry off, this is the time to return to London and take up residence in an owned or rented Mayfair town house, in order to play the 'marriage market'. Quadrille is a brand new play-by-post RPG set during the English Regency, a period of excess for the aristocracy characterised by distinctive fashions, politics and culture. We encourage members to create original characters but do have a short list of canons. We also have a Regency Repository containing useful information about the period. Please have a browse and consider joining – we have only just opened and are in need of members!
