She was pretty, beautiful in fact. He had seen few in his time that could hold a candle to her, but it was something else entirely that drew him towards her. It was that she was legit, that she, like him, could see things before they even happened. He had a feeling that her ability was more powerful than his, but he couldn't care less. The she of whom he was referring to was Faith Riddle. They had met in a coffee shop, and became friends. It was she whom he was taking to one of his buddies weddings that was going to start in two hours. She was a "psychic", but he was just a plain old guy, who just happened to know what people were going to do before they did. His ability was concerned mainly to what he was concerned about, like the safety of his men, country, and cats. Though on occasion, there were random bits of things that he needed to know, but didn't know why yet that flashed through his mind.
As he sat there shining his shoes, he thought this, the small rhythmic circles almost putting him in a trance. He loved when he could see his reflection in his shoes, it was magical. Everything he was to wear tonight was in order, starched, and hung up on a hanger by the closet door. Everything was perfect, as was expected from Marine Corps Dress Blues. He was going to be the best man, and was required to wear four of his 40 medals, one of his purple hearts, NDS, Bronze Star, and his Silver Star. Although he never was much of a show off, he wanted to look his best, and according to the groom, medals were part of it. After the completion of shining his now mirror escque, jet black shoes, he stripped and went to take a shower. For the three minutes he was actually in the ceramic tub, he totally cleaned his mind, whipped it all away and just washed in complete unquestioning nothingness. It was instinct now that made his hand take the washcloth and cover it with soap, then scrub his partially grease covered body. This ability to turn everything off was the only thing that kept him from totally going insane. Between the Visions and the memories, at times it was a little much to bare, but the end of the story was that nether were ever going to fade. He turned off the ice cold water, dried off and shaved his five o'clock shadow. Making sure every possible piece of hair on his jaw was gone, he brushed his teeth and adorned his uniform.
Looking at his watch, he made his way down the stairs of the Marriot he was staying at. He still had a good hour and a half before the ceremony. Just enough time to get over to pick up Faith, and get to the catholic church that it was going to be held at with forty minutes to spare. the engine of the 2009 Nissan Z 350 that he had rented roared to life as he turned the key in the ignition. He turned the CD player to Green Day, backed out of the public parking, and sped down the road to Faiths abode. The car drove like a beauty, but was no comparison to the 1971 Grand Torino that he had waiting for him back in California.
He pulled up to her home ten minutes latter and turned down the music. Although he loved it, he knew that loud music would be a bit inappropriate for the upcoming occasion. He turned off the car, put his dress hat on, and checked in the mirror one last time. Then with a small pop the car door opened and he put his newly shined boots on the dirty pavement to walk over to her door. He pressed the beeper to lock the car even though he would be back within a few minutes, and waked to Faiths front porch. Taking of his hat that he had just put on, he straightened his uniform and rang the door bell, calmly awaiting his psychic friend.

Faith's cat cried for the bowl of milk she filled and left on the counter, out of reach from the feline. The complaint didn't go unnoticed. She mumbled an apology and hopped to the kitchen on one leg as she was fixing a stiletto heel on one foot with one hand and texting with her other hand. She sent the text to it's receiver - Dani. She was giving him a play by play. She regretted any anxiety she might be ailing him, which is why she was texting him liberally until Gavin came for her.
The disdain for the mortal man who was taking Faith out tonight was to be expected from the vampire. The circumstance under which Dani allowed his captive, Faith herself, to accompany Gavin to the wedding was... understandable. She had to be in a Marine's point of view at all times, no exceptions. The fact that she would be surrounded by Marines, was probably the only thing that allowed Dani's charge to go. Dani was perfectly clear - hell would freeze over before he allowed any shape or form of injury to befall Faith tonight. Gavin's life was on the line if Faith so much as tripped and bruised her knee. Under Gavin's watch, it would be his fault. Harsh? Yes. Extreme? Pushing it.
Faith and Dani had reason to worry. Dani's cousin was to spontaneously show. What the purple eyed vampire planned to do, they still didn't know. But it was going to be bad. Faith assured Dani she would be safe from his cousin tonight - she didn't see Gavin having anything to do with this in her vision. There was another thing to worry about as well - the visions themselves. They worsened every time she had one. The last time, (she was fortunately with Dani), she seized and bled from her ears, mouth, eyes, nose. The visions were incredibly draining, and left her with a searing headache. The fact of it was, a vision could happen any time now, and not just when she was asleep, as they usually occurred then.
Faith needed to be with someone who understood and knew how to care for that situation. Gavin was a candidate. He too, was psychic. Stubborn as Dani was, Faith had given him good reasons for letting her go tonight. A psychic Marine could temporarily care for her. It was probably the mortal bit that bothered Dani.
She needed to forget Dani tonight and focus on Gavin. A social life with other humans was healthy. Staying locked away in Dani's abode like precious, untouchable treasure, was maddening. Especially since her vampire captor lacked human emotion. She'd been starved from emotion. She could hardly wait to see Gavin again, he who had what Dani lacked. For a Marine, who were generally stiff, Gavin was quite emotional. His gift, which was similar to her own, set this particular Marine apart from the statuesque rest. Gavin was the only person she could confide in and get a genuinely human reaction from. He listened to her, understood, offered sympathy, made her feel less like a freak when anyone else would laugh. Gavin was heavensent.
When her cat sprang from the empty mild dish, she realized she'd been staring at him for a good five minutes, having lost herself in her musings. She needed to finish getting ready, Gavin would be coming shortly. She raced around the house to retrieve her other shoe and collect any make-up to bring should she need to touch up later. She'd just finished getting ready when the doorbell rang.
Faith all but skipped to answer it, nearly shaking with excitement. She took in a breath to compose herself, then unlocked and opened the door. "Evening, SSgt.," she gave a casual salute to the Marine in his uniformed blue attire. Only four of his numerous medals glared boastfully back at her. "You're looking spiffy," and then she couldn't keep the serious façade anymore. She couldn't stand to see him so still and rigid. She disliked the statuesque stance very much after staying with a vampire who adopted this manner night and day. Tiresome to look at. "Eh, at ease?" she tried, and then gave it up altogether. A grin spread across her face and she threw her arms around him. She pecked his cheek, then parted. "Gavin, it's so good to see you again."

He knew she would beautiful, he saw it in the kitchen when he was making breakfast, but visions never truly did justice to the human body and it's splendor when taken care of. He was expecting her to look gorgeous, and rightfully so. As she opened the door, the small gust of air that followed blew a small strand of hair out of her face. Her purple dress accented her smooth curves, or rather the other way around. the silver bangle that hang from her slender wrist gleamed in the sunlight as she gave a sloppy, but cute salute. As usual, the gesture brought a small crooked smile tugging as his lips. She was adorable, he forgot how much his missed her playfulness. In the world where he was from, it was either stiff military conduct or insanely wild parties where he and his buddies would unwind. There were few Marines who were so puppy dog like as faith. Even when she tied to be serious, Gavin couldn't help but smile at how absurd it looked, or at least to those who knew her.
It was the "You're looking spiffy" that gave her away...Who can be serious when they say "spiffy"? Lord have mercy... She looked at him weirdly when his lips and eyes were the only parts of his body that showed how her ways made him feel. He always stood straight, almost like a statue. It was the training that did it...You can take the Marine out of the battle, but you can't take the battle out of the Marine.... He didn't mean to be so, it was just how he was. Her order of at ease triggered an instinct that he couldn't suppress. His legs stepped apart instantly and his hands and hat went behind his back. His gaze went straight ahead and his face went blank. This didn't happen very often, he usually had complete control of his tendencies, but it was unexpected from such a delicate source and caught him off guard. It wasn't till a split second later when Faith gave up her façade and gave him a hug, that he was able to relax back into his "less military" mode. He had no civilian left in him, only warrior on the inside, only the unyielding desire to protect and serve. He wrapped his arms around her in return and smiled as she kissed him on the cheek. She had a certain scent about her tonight, he couldn't quite tell what, but it was wonderful. When they parted, he took her hand and kissed it. "Faith my friend, it has been far to long."
He couldn't stop his signature smile from spreading across his face. It wasn’t anywhere near perfect, and normally struck fear into those who did something to anger him, but he couldn't help it. Her company was all to enjoyable, his missed being with her when he was in California. Such a good friend was incredibly hard to find outside of the USMC, especially one that had the gift. She understood him more than anyone else did, well that side of him at least. There was nothing that was going to hurt this one, she to was dear to him. Although they were merely friends, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill anyone who dared lay a hand on her. She was irreplaceable, the Devil would tremble in the wake of his wrath if something were to happen to Faith. He stood back up and offered her his arm, "You look spectacular. Are you ready?"

As soon as his posture changed as she commanded it, she felt her cheeks heat up and couldn't help an apologetic and troubled look. She didn't expect him to react, but then she'd forgotten momentarily what it meant to be what he was. But taking orders from her? A civilian? Was that normal? It certainly wasn't supposed to be so. In fact, it should be the other way around.
Once again she managed to find herself in a relationship with a warrior. The only difference between Gavin and Dani was the former was broken in. Dani was a wild card, but he definitely had his priorities. For instance, if the vampire wasn't careful, he could snap her neck with a flick of his wrist. He wouldn't want to, but if he was in a situation where he couldn't control himself, he could.
Gavin's warm embrace was wonderful. She loved the close proximity to this fellow human, deprived as she was from such a thing. She was swelling with affection, she cared very much for the Marine. He returned a more formal kiss on her hand. This she expected, and felt extremely grateful she at least got that from him. He was such a gentleman, very kind and courteous.
"I agree. Much too long. But it was a pleasant surprise when you called. The whole psychic thing has a tendency to eliminate surprises. It gets to be a disappointment," she admitted. Seeing his smile again brought back the happy memory of when they first met in the coffee shop. She remembered his smile the most. It was cute, and a sight to see - a lot of Marines were stiff-lipped.
Faith blushed again when he complimented her. Gavin was a sweetie under layers upon layers of Marine. Faith's cat seemed to agree -- suddenly he was there, against Gavin's leg and purring. She was pleased the creature actually approved for once. "Yeah, I'm ready to go," she grabbed the cat by the scruff of his neck and placed him gently on the sofa adjacent to the door. Swiftly, she stepped outside and closed the door before the cat could escape. Faith locked it, tossed the keys in her purse, and took Gavin's offered arm.
