Damn, Evelyn should’ve brought a watch with her. Patience was definitely not her virtue, and time was never really something she had to keep track of in her life. So, she had no idea what five minutes should feel like. The second she left the club, she side-stepped and leaned against the wall of the club to wait for Jay. She looked around for a moment, and then glanced at her wrist. An immediate look of disappointment spread over her face. Usually people do this in order to look at the time, but Evelyn forgot for a moment that she doesn’t wear watches. She lifted her head and glanced around the street in hopes for a clock hanging somewhere. Really, these places should’ve had clocks somewhere outside. It would’ve been extremely useful right now.
Her boot began to tap quickly against the sidewalk. What has it been, an hour or only three minutes? Ugh, how long could it take to make some drinks? Evelyn thought through it in her head. Okay, so when she left, he should’ve been on his way to the group of girls. He would’ve made their drinks ... She visualized him making the drinks and how long it should’ve taken him. By now … he probably should’ve been on the third drink …
”So where did you want me to take you?”
Oh.
Evelyn glanced over at the little furball as he walked toward her. His whole appearance looked much different than before. He wore the same clothes as before, but the apron was replaced with a sleek, black leather jacket. A cigarette dangled from his mouth. Cigarettes … what nasty little boring things. He looked … older, and much less innocent than before. Evelyn gave a quick nod of approval before releasing her eyes from him and searching around the street to find something else to do.
There were three other clubs on this street, but Evelyn figured that taking an owner from one club and going out to another club was not such a good idea. There were also a few stores and restaurants, but Evelyn wasn’t hungry or in the mood to buy anything new right now. Hmmm …
“I’m not sure where to go.” She admitted to the wolf. “I don’t really travel to Hollywood too often.”
Damn. She should’ve really saved that boy she knew, instead of eating him. He was so excited when she came out last time. All he could talk about was this great spot on the beach that he couldn’t wait to take her too. It was some secret place, hardly anyone went there. He mentioned that surfing there was dangerous, and there was something about a cliff that was fun to dive from. Hmm … it was dark, but that sounded interesting.
“Actually … I kind of know about this one place.” She eyed Jay questioningly. Hopefully he knew about it. “Um, a … friend … of mine was telling me about this place on the beach. Hardly anyone goes there, and there’s this big cliff that you can jump off of.” She sighed a bit in disappointment. Evelyn probably just explained every single beach in California. “You can’t surf there, either. Never mind, I don’t even know where the beach is.”

Jay removed the cigarette he placed between his lips and shoved it back into the pocket of his jacket. He noticed that Evelyn didn’t smoke and was trying to avoid being rude in any way. Back when he did not smoking himself, he had dated a woman who had the nasty habit and he hated it when she smoked around him. Now, unfortunately, he picked up the awful addiction. He blamed it on the stress he went through while moving from one country to another.
As she looked up and down the street, he did the same looking in the opposite direction. Though they were in Hollywood, there seemed to be nothing exciting to do. Sure, there were other bars and clubs that they could have gone to but they obviously bored the vampire. A restaurant was out of the question of course. Vampires didn’t need to eat. Well, food anyways.
”I’m not sure where to go. I don’t really travel to Hollywood too often.”
”So you’re a tourist then.” Jay let out a soft chuckle and slipped his hands into the front pockets of his pants. He hated being in his work pants. Not that they were uncomfortable or anything, he just felt… awkward being in them outside of work. No matter. He had no one to impress and he figured since Evelyn had asked to him to leave work early to accompany her that she was already impressed by something. That or she couldn’t find anyone else to accompany her and he was some kind of last resort. He liked his first idea better.
Biting down on his bottom lip, he began thinking of other things they could possibly do. If he had more than five minutes, he could have thought of something but he didn’t want to keep Evelyn waiting more than she had to. The thought of the beach did cross his mind but he figured that it was too intimate of a place to take her seeing that they had just met only an hour or so before.
“Um, a … friend … of mine was telling me about this place on the beach. Hardly anyone goes there, and there’s this big cliff that you can jump off of.”
Okay, I guess the beach wasn’t out of the question then. The corners of his lips slid up as his smile broadened. He knew exactly what place she was talking about and began to wonder who mentioned it to her. The place was secluded and was somewhat difficult to get to. That was probably why hardly anyone went there. He knew neither of them would have a problem getting there.
”I know exactly where that is. Actually it’s not too far from here.” Instead of taking a cab, he figured they could both just run there. They were both fast enough to get there within minutes and besides, it would be free. Cabs seemed to be overpriced anyways.
He shot her a simple look, hoping she was thinking the same as he was. He knew that he could run faster than she could but he promised himself that he would keep it at an even pace. It was either that or give her a piggyback ride but she didn’t seem like the type that would be up for something like that.

Her face almost lit up in excitement at Jay’s words. He knew of the place she wanted to go to! Evelyn wasn’t so sure about why she felt happy about this. If anything she should’ve felt guilt or sadness, since she did kill the man that was supposed to take her there. Oh well, no matter. If the wouldn’t have proposed, Evelyn wouldn’t have killed him. Well, that’s not exactly true. Whatever. His death was his fault.
He was so cheery on the phone. When Evelyn told him that she was decided to hang out in Hollywood for the weekend, she could hear him jumping around in excitement. His voice easily shot up a tone or two. ”Oh, this is great! I can’t wait for you to come here! There’s this place I’ve always wanted to take you…” He spoke about it like he’s been waiting for years to take Evelyn there. He only knew her for a week. She just rolled her eyes. It was a bad idea to tell him about coming to Hollywood.
The air felt so nice outside. Evelyn glanced toward the road as a taxi drove by. Her eyes looked at Jay questioningly. “Um…” Hmmm, he was a werewolf, a newly bitten werewolf. He could most likely run faster than Evelyn, but she would have the advantage, anyways. Many wolves underestimated Evelyn’s speed. She was no wolf, but she was quick for her kind, and she could use a good run right now.
Oh, a run sounded fantastic. Her body immediately tensed up at the thought of it. Besides hunting, running was Evelyn’s favorite thing in the world. The high speed winds whipping against her face, all of her muscles tensing up, she loved it. There was nothing better to do when she was aggravated or bothered than to go for a run.
Evelyn glanced down the street. It was boring to run on a straight path, but Evelyn would take it. She smirked up at the little wolf. “I’ll race ya…” Then … she was gone. She had no idea where she was going, but he was a wolf. He’d catch up to her, anyways.

The excitement could clearly be seen through her quick change of expression. He let a smug grin cross his face as he came to a stop, awaiting her decision. Jay wouldn’t mind running, taking a cab, or even walking to the beach. He was in no rush but he was sure Evelyn was. They only had a small handful of hours left before the sun came up.
The soft ”Um…” she gave him worried him for a moment. Why was she being hesitant about it? That’s what it seemed like to him anyways. He would understand if she felt uncomfortable going to the beach with him. It was after all, a place ‘couples’ would go to and the two of them had just met. He figured she must have been much. much older than him and knew what any guy thought of when alone with a women.
As she remained silent for a moments debating on what to do, he began wondering if he should run in his human or wolf form. It was clear that he would be much faster as a wolf but he was in no mood to undress in front of Evelyn and have her carry his clothes while he ran. What a hassle. It would be much easier on the both of them if he just ran as he was. In human form.
When she glanced down the street, he did the same. She was looking in the direction they needed to go as if she already knew where the place was herself. He removed his hands from his pockets and stretched his arms above his head, readying himself for the run just incase that’s what she decided on. Before he could ask her what she wanted to do, she chimed in.
”I’ll race ya…”
And with that, she was gone. He let a soft growl escape him as he started after her. ”Wait! You didn’t say go!” To anyone he had passed, he was a blur. He was running as fast as his legs could go and soon enough he had caught up to her. ”You cheated.” he joked as he began running a bit ahead of her to lead her to the ‘secret beach’.

She heard the pup shout out something, but she was going too fast and was already too far away to understand a word. A very obvious, teeth-bearing smile was planted on Evelyn’s face as she raced down the street. There were only a few people that she passed by down the sidewalk; barely anyone was actually out, tonight. Evelyn loved the lack of crowd right now. There were no distractions and no obstacles in her way. The cool air hit her face at full speed as she raced through the city.
She took quick glances at the buildings she passed, none of them she could see clear enough to tell what they were. No, just colorful, bright blurs of lights and occasional mumbled sounds of loud music. The only thing that seemed to not move at about 70 mph was the sky.
Evelyn glanced up and looked at the moon, which looked full at first glance. She noticed the tiniest shadow of darkness that skimmed along the side of the moon, ruining the perfect circle. Hmm, Evelyn wondered, for a moment, if she would stay in Hollywood long enough to see his first change. That would definitely be interesting, but Evelyn hadn’t decided whether or not Jay was interesting enough to hang out with for more than one night, yet.
It wasn’t long before she heard a very expected comment from Jay.
”You cheated.”
“Oh, like you weren’t going to catch up, anyways.” She rolled her eyes as she continued to follow the wolf.

“Oh, like you weren’t going to catch up, anyways.”
A grin danced across his face at her retort and for a moment, he watched as she rolled her eyes at him before darting off, leaving her a few yards behind him. He moved his way between the crowd of people they passed, careful not to bump into anyone or anything for that matter. The cool air felt good against him and with it was the smell of different perfume, cologne, and even food. He was tempted to stop to grab something to eat at a steakhouse near by but he decided against it, not wanting the vampire to sit around waiting for him to finish his food.
Though they weren’t far from the beach now, he decided to toy with her a bit, taking the long way along the line of buildings which concealed the large body of water behind them. To Jay, this was like a little game of ‘tag’ and she was ‘it’. Slowing down his pace, he waited for a moment until she was only a couple of feet away from him. He turned his head slightly to look back at her, that smug grin still painted across his face. Games were something Jay enjoyed a little too much.
”Catch me if you can…” he challenged, his tone a playful one. He knew it wouldn’t be fair if he ran as fast as he could, knowing that he was a bit faster than vampires. Exactly how much faster? He didn’t know but he was determined to find out. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so.
Jumping over a line of newspapers stands he took a sharp turn between a couple of large buildings and down a narrow alleyway which led straight to the threshold of the beach. It was his own little shortcut and he hoped that she hadn’t caught him taking the turn but it was inevitable. She was a vampire. It was certain she could see every single move he made no matter how fast he was.

It was only a moment before he dashed off again and was now a figure about half his actual size racing in front of her. She continued to follow him, weaving through the crowd of people on the sidewalk. There was a few more people out, now, but most of them we're either incredibly sleepy or incredibly drunk, so few actually took notice to the two really fast human-looking blurs rushing past them.
She couldn't wait to get to the nice, secluded beach, away from all of these humans that put on way too much cologne and perfumes. Evelyn could never understand the reason for putting SO much on. Were the humans' sense of smell seriously THAT bad? Well, Evelyn's sense of smell was great, and this mixed with all of the burnt food from the restaurants gave her a huge headache.
After a while of following Jay, she began to get a little suspicious. Evelyn could've sworn that they were closer to the beach than this. Evelyn tried to look around, but the buildings were too big to see how close the ocean was from them. She sped up a bit, but the wolf was still to quick for her. It wasn't until he slowed down that Evelyn finally was able to catch up to him. She was a couple feet away from him when he turned slightly in her direction. She smirked at his little "catch me" comment.
So, the little pup wants to see if he can outrun a vampire? Well, he could easily outrun Evelyn if they were running in a straight path, but she could easily catch up to the boy if there were a few twists and turns involved. The wolf took off, and immediately turned into an alleyway.
Perfect.
Evelyn jumped up and slammed one foot against the newsstand. She gave a strong push, which helped gain a few mph, and flew down the alleyway. She was almost caught up with him, but once she began to lose some speed, she began to fall back again. No worries, though. There were plenty of dumpsters and walls to push off of in the alleyway. She kept pushing forward, slightly losing speed and then gaining it again, and slowly she was creeping up on the wolf. Silly little pup, Evelyn's learned a few techniques on how to catch a fleeing mutt. She smirked every time she pushed off against another wall as she thought of the trail of destruction she left behind.
The disgusting burnt and cologne smell from earlier was slowly fading away, and the smell of the salty ocean was now become stronger. Evelyn smiled as she took in a deep sniff and pushed off of another wall with her heel. She was excited to almost be there, maybe she would push the little mutt in the ocean. Wolfs can run fast, but she wondered if he could hold her breath longer than her. Evelyn snickered to herself as she jumped onto a dumpster and pushed off of it. She didn't even need to breathe to survive. Of course he would lose that little game.
