Stefan walked through the pitch darkness of the dense forest north of London. His long, black leather trench coat concealed most of his body in the night, but his violet eyes shone out... searching the trees as he walked. He didn't want to stay long, he had a connecting flight from London to New York City in just four hours. He would be back with her soon. Soon. Before the dawn, even. One particular thing he enjoyed about this century was the technology. He could go from Europe to New York only an hour or two. Stefan sighed and stopped, glancing around he spoke in a clear, soft, baritone voice, "I know you're here Argel. I need to speak to you. I won't leave you alone until you've at least talked to me." He said to the darkness. He waited as the minutes crept by.

That damnable vampire... He was too old to banter with a conniving undead thing. "I won't leave you alone until you've at least talked to me." Well hell and damn it all.... Bloody leeches. He lit the torch he held in his hand. Best be prepared with some fire, just in case. He then stepped out from behind the tree and faced the vampire. Recognition dawned on his face. A scowl formed shortly afterwards. "Go away, Ge'Val! I don't need a heightened blood pressure at my age and that's all your troubles ever give me. Go back to your gardens in Romania and leave me in peace! I'm too old for your games." Argel held the torch up higher and let the light fall on his body. He was indeed old. He had a long white mane of hair and a scraggly gray beard. He still looked strong, but his muscles had atrophied. He was seventy-six years old and past his prime. His gray eyes glared at Stefan and he growled, "I'm in no shape to deal with you or anything else, Ge'Val. Just leave me in peace..."

Stefan paused and averted his eyes from Argel's cool gaze. "I am sorry to bother you, Argel. I know time has been unkind to you..."

"Unkind! I think I'm doing rather well, thank you. I may not be a pristine statue, frozen forever at the age of twenty or however old you were, but I still have some life in me." Argel snapped. He let a low growl and continued, "Tell me what you want, Ge'Val. Get it over with."

Stefan took in a breath. "Ugh." The smell of old dog... Careful to not let that thought show on his features, he looked into Argel's gray eyes with his own violet ones, "I need some information. There are some things going on that I'm sure you know about. You still have a large network of friends and contacts, I'm sure..." He paused, "There is a war. Xavier's coven and a werewolf pack led by a man named Patrick... They are drawing in so many people, Argel this is very close to a full scale, worldwide vampire vs. werewolf war."

Argel spat on the ground, "And what of it. What do I care if the whole world goes to hell with this war? I'll be dead soon anyway. I don't have any children or relatives anymore. And for that matter, what do YOU care about all of this? I doubt Patrick and his pack know about you, nor could they catch and kill you if they did. I know full well what you're capable of and you'd.."

Stefan cut him off short, "What do you think Melany would say to you if she heard you say that?" He snapped back at Argel. His violet eyes flaming with a fury he could barely hold back. He took a step closer to the old wolf and said in a low, dangerous voice, "You know full well why it would always concern me, Argel. But if you want another reason..."

As Stefan came closer to the light, he could see that something was missing. Something that had always been there... "Where is your locket?" Shock in his voice. He knew Stefan never took it off and usually snapped off anyone's head if they asked why he wore it. He knew though. The way Stefan always replied to inquiries about the locket. The way Stefan touched it. He had been in love once. But now it was gone? He knew Stefan's personality fairly well. He was probably one of the only people who did understand him... unless. "You're in love with someone... Someone who has ties to this war." Understand echoed in his old voice. He gave a long sigh and asked, "What do you need to know, Stefan?"

He knew it was inevitable that he was going to find out, but Stefan was still set back slightly by how fast Argel put the pieces together. He shook his head slowly. This wolf knew how to get information too well... Must have been all those years tracking down clues to hunt vampires. Stefan looked at Argel and said in a low voice, "I want to try to stop the war. Or if I can't stop it, I need friends so I can protect her. I'll form my own coven to protect her. But I need to know who I can trust. Vampires like me. Vampires who are led by their heart and and not their thirst. Vampires who can coexist with wolves..."

There it was. Out in the open. Damn it all to hell, this leech was trying to save lives... Even if it was for his own gain to protect the person he loved... "I can give you two names that you can trust without a doubt. Tirith and Daros. Tirith is in Alaska, last time I checked. I know you know him... but he's changed since you last met. He mostly just hunts animals and lives in peace up there on a reservation away from the rest of the world. I have no idea where Daros is. I last heard he was in Africa. Something about the Egyptians he wanted to look into. Then he disappeared and hasn't been seen or heard from since. They're both old and strong vampires and their conscience is similar to yours..." Argel stared into Stefan's violet eyes. The most civilized vampire he had ever met, perhaps. He had saved his Melany and helped him out of more trouble than he could count. "I hope you do okay, mate." He whispered, then turned away, limping back into the shadows of the trees, extinguishing his torch in the ground as he went. "And don't come looking for me again, Ge'Val. I need peace in my old age." He said gruffly before disappearing into the night.

Stefan nodded once in recognition of the names. As Argel limped off into the night, he whispered after him, "Thank you, my friend. Thank you." He then swept away, back to the lights and traffic of London, proper. He had a flight to catch and he wanted to be back in Nicka's arms. He'd have to tell her what he was planning soon. He was going to stop this madness. But that failing... he would at least ensure she would stay safe. Tirith and Daros... Well Tirith sounded easy enough to find and Daros would probably be a bit of a job to find... but he had a hope for his plan. It didn't seem so insane anymore.
