Scarlet hummed a happy little tune as she headed home. Even though the melody was happy...she wasnt happy at all. She had been at a dance recital all day and she had been expecting her dad to come pick her up. It was the least he could do since it was her weekend to stay with him. He would pick her up and they they would fly off to New York. But after waiting for four hours, she gave up waiting. She had grabbed her things and headed off towards home.
It was dark though and freezing and the sweat she had on her body and clothes made things even colder. She wished she was at home and in her warm bed. She could kill her father for this. Her mother wasnt in town since she figured he would come get her. She had all her things packed at home. What had happened to make him late? He had never been late before. It was odd and she would question him later. If she let him live.
As she walked though she heard a noise in the alley to her left. She tilted her head slightly, her dark brown curls falling into her face. She pushed them away with a slight huff and then placed them behind her ear. They always got in her way. But the noise that had captured her attention was more interesting to her then her bangs and so she made her way into the alley. She realized with a start that it was colder in here then on the streets. Why was that? And she had no coat. She only had the light white dress on that she hastily picked out this morning. Now she regretted it.
As she continued to hear a sound she kept moving forward. But she knew better then to go any deeper then what she had already. Her heart was beating quickly at the excitement of it all. She loved adventure even if it meant danger. It was something strange about her. She then called out, "Hello?"

The clashing of metal trash cans jolted Colton from a sound sleep. He jumped to his feet and whirled around, pressing his back up against the wall, bending his knees slightly ready to move. The great black wolf prowled in front of him. To Colton, it looked like a huge shadow with round green orbs. It was unnerving, seeing was seemed a pair of eyes from the dark attached to nothing. The crystalline spheres stared at him, but didn't move any closer. The wolf was assessing him, watching him to see what he would do.
The wolf didn't mean to wake the kid up. She was simply passing through when she so clumsily walked into the trash cans adjacent from him. She'd been so preoccupied watching him, sure that he'd hear her claws clacking against the cement. She'd been wrong, and now he was wide eyed and holding a blade in his hand. Though she'd been stabbed before, she hadn't been planning on getting injured tonight. She just wanted to pass through the alley and go home, so she didn't move.
Colton stared the intent eyes down suspiciously, waiting to see what they would do. He took a step forward and the orbs reacted instantaneously. They flashed away and her tail, thin and furry, ran across his face. He gave a startled cry and slashed at the air in front of him, but nothing was there anymore. The wolf bounded down the alley and far away from the teenager, and the only noise left was the sound of Colton's ragged breath.
A single word of the English language slithered into his ears. He looked to where the source could be sharply, but in the darkness, could not see anyone. "Who's there?" he hissed. He kept the switch blade steady in his hand and squinted through the darkness. He could very faintly make out the outline of a very human someone. He relaxed a little, as the voice didn't sound threatening or deep. It was high toned, so a girl was coming his way. Drawing some tension away, Colton flipped the switch back and tucked it into his pocket.

Scarlet thought she heard the sound of trashcans falling and getting knocked about. But she wasnt sure. She had never really walked this way before. She just knew it was the way home. So when something like this happened she didnt know what was going on. For all she knew it was a gang. But that didnt scare her for some reason. She had no fear of death. She had no fears really. She might be frightened about something else later in life...but as a teenager...she wasnt scared.
Her friends always tried to make her believe that vampires and werewolves stalked the night. They would make creepy faces at her and try to sneak up on her. But it never worked. She would always say, 'Vampire and werewolves oh my!', in that joke tone and then roll her eyes. She knew they werent real and some freak along time ago made them up to scare little kids to go to bed or behave and listen to what they were told.
But she couldnt feeling like this was the perfect set up for a vampire or werewolf horror film. The stupid female role would walk into someplace dark and scary with total confidence and then next thing she knew...chomp! She was vamp or were bait. That small little thought made her chuckle. She shook her head and her dark curls bounced around her face. How ridiculous. But still she walked on and then finally she saw something up ahead.
Hallelujah! There was someone she could finally talk to. She wished her friends were here and then she could turn to them and say, 'See...no vamp or werewolf here.' But since they were not she walked over to the teen aged boy herself. She started to make out features as she got closer and she thougth she recognized him and yet...she didnt know from where. She tried figuring that out silently as she stopped and folded her arms.
"Hey...I heard a noise. You all right?" She asked him with a gentle tilt of her head.

Colton yawned the sleep away and stretched out his cramped limbs, previously bent against his body, back curled with his head to his knees. He felt like shit and probably looked like it too. He glanced at his watch and found it was early for the night. He had no idea how long he slept, whether it had been a nap or if he was here for hours.
He pulled on his filthy sweat jacket and threw the hood over his head while the girl walked forward. "Fine. Did you see anything?" he asked numbly. He could have dreamed the pair of eyes and then hit the can himself in his sleep. They were crazily vivid and alive, though. Colton removed a pack of cigarettes from his jacket pocket and lit one up. He blew the smoke above his head and away from the girl.
He had to have seen her before, she looked very familiar. For some reason, history class rang a bell as he took in her features: long dark hair, high cheek bones, oval face with a pointed chin. Her nose, slender, as was her body. Overall, she was pretty cute. She had a graceful and flowing disposition to her. Her walk looked like a dance. "Do I know you from somewhere?" he fished. He was positive he saw a flicker of recognition in her eyes.

Scarlet watched him gently. He seemed like he was all right. But something was edgy about him and she didnt know what. She was good at figuring things out. But he was a puzzle. She loved figuring out puzzles. And this challenge would be one she would crack. She was going to try and crack him. She had the talent to do so. But she just needed to spend more time with him. So she didnt want the conversation to end. He seemed calm though and all to willing to let her leave.
She leaned against the wall and watched him take out the cigarette and then light it. She had never liked smokers really. It was really bad for your health. She would have mentioned that up but she realized she had never answered his first question. She shrugged gently, the movement graceful like everything else she did. "I guess not. If you say your fine...then your fine." She told him and brushed her hair behind her shoulder. She was glad that he wasnt blowing the smoke towards her. She would have gagged.
However, she did feel uncomfortable when she saw his gaze size her body up. She had seen some random guys give her that look and she had punched them square in the jaw. But she hated punching people. Those jerks deserved it though. So she could make an exception. She rubbed her arms to try and warm them and then she raised an eyebrow at his question. So he had noticed it to. She chuckled and said, "I was going to ask the same thing. I want to say..History class." Then it dawned on her. "Your Colton Callaghan!" Her eyes lit up with recognition.
