Aubrey sat in the far corner of the dark night lounge. She had once loved coming to places like these. Strangers sat around in a very small yet cozy area filled with oversize chairs and dull colored couches. The majority of them smoked long cigarettes and preferred to drink coffee versus alcohol. Here, people would grab up guitars or bongo drums and jump onstage whenever the urge filled them. People would smile, clap softly, and nod their heads. It was warm and open, but it was also a lie. Their entire existence was.
She had sat as far away from everyone as she possibly could. The large orange chair seemed to enfold her in its cushions. She watched the stage carefully. One woman had been reciting poetry and then she decided to sit at the piano and sing a song by Regina Spektor. Aubrey couldn't figure out if it was meant to be sad or not.
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met
...
Aubrey sipped her latte' slowly. She had too much to think about to really be here. There was too much going on, but she had slipped away to come here. She had seen an ad for it in a magazine. Before she could even think she was suddenly in California. She had left notes for the proper people. She missed Shaden.

Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonder bread and went right back to bed
And history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us
The bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first , I loved you first
Beneath the stars came falling on our heads
But there just soft light, there just soft light
Your hair was long when we first met
...
Her honey orbs watched the people around her. They all seemed so close. So warm, so comfortable together. these were the bleeding artists. Aubrey had wanted to be a photographer, that was an artistic form. She could have been a artist, instead she was turned into a vampire. Not just any Vampire though, She was the first 'born' in the second generation of The Black Nail Coven. It had not been her choice, but it had happened none the less. She had become more powerful than most vampires centuries older than she. All thanks to Xavier.

Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
He told me i was beautiful and came into my bed
Oh I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors and the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
and kissed me till the morning light, the morning light
and he kissed me till the morning light
...
Xavier was her sire, her master, and her coven leader. He was her greatest ally and worst enemy. She loved him, she hated him, she needed him, and she desperately wanted to be free of him. It hurt her to think to hard on it. Their bond was strong and she finally quit trying to ignore it. She didn't leave him a note. He knew where she was. he knew when she left and when she arrived.
She had left Shaden a note. She traced her lips and smiled, it was her first real one since arriving in California. Aubrey loved Shaden and he loved her. She didn't deserve his love, she could never give herself to him fully. But he still loved her. He protected her, he fought for her. He could have died twice already trying to save her. She wished he was here.

Samson came back to bed
not much hair left on his head
Ate a slice of wonderbread and went right back to bed
Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
...
The sound of soft clapping pulled her away from her thoughts. The song had finished. She softly clapped along with the others. Someone else was already making way onto the stage. She shrunk back into the chair. She had come here to get lost in something other than her life. She wanted to enjoy the night.
