Okay, so I have an update.
Craigslist.com has been sifting some vagabonds lately.
Channel 8 News in Florida has announced that there is someone out there making fake checks to thousands of people.
What they do is send you a reply to an ad via e-mail, claiming that they are hearing imapared, or have some other form of handicap. This is so they don't have to call you.
They will overpay with a check and you will have to refund the remaining balance.
This is the scam. Taking all your money, maybe your idenity.
I recieved an E-Mail not too long after they showed it, and have taken my evidence straight to the police.
Do not touch the envelope Do not touch the check Call your local P.D. and tell them what happened. Keep all records of E-Mail so you can show them
They dusted for prints, scanned where it could have came from, so on and so forth.
The check comes from an old bank that is no longer in use. The name is invalid.
There are also no spaces between check routing number, and bank account number.
The side looks like a money order stub, and there is no account number on it.
Before cashing a check, ask your bank to verify if it is real.
If you have anything further, please post below.
