Katra sighed heavily as she walked the forest. It was thick and green and the shadows bouncing off the base of the trunks made it seem haunted. But she knew better. Katra wasnt afraid of a simple forest. No. The forest was her friend. It wouldnt hurt her as long as she respected it and kept on the right path. And she already knew where she was going.
She would come her many nights to just think. Think about things that had happened to her. The most thoughts that went through her mind was that one night. But that always made her angry. She wished she could have saved them. But what could a little human girl do. She was lucky she had made it out. Patrick had saved her and she was forever grateful.
She finally made it to the spot she had been looking for and smiled. It was a large tree that had hanging branches and was full of leaves. She climbed it at times because it was a challenge. But she mostly just sat underneath it and looked out into the forest area. The moon was always right over her and it brought her comfort.
She sat down under the tree and took in a deep breath. Everything was fresh and smelt wet. It really was a nice night.

Patrick slipped through the trees, sniffing gratefully at the deep, wet, living smells of the forest around him. He loved it out here; it was such a change from the somtimes harsh atmosphere of the city.
He was guessing that Katra had come this way; she was often to be found out here. He was a little worried about her. Lately, he'd not had the time to talk to anyone; events were moving, and he was usually away from the pack house. When he'd realized how much he was absenting himself, he'd shaken himself by the collar. Tonight would be about those he cared the most for; tonight, he'd hunt down his pack and just talk to them, make sure everything was ok.
He caught her scent and smiled; just as he thought. Under that tree again. Making no effort to hide his movements, he slipped through the last of the trees between them and stepped out into the clearing, smiling gently at her. "Hello, Katra."
He smiled and moved towards her, sure of his welcome. Sitting beside her, he leaned on the tree, turning his head to study her with thoughtful eyes. She seemed ok. He felt a touch of anxiety break off and flutter away.

Katra had her head against the tree and her eyes closed. Her face was bathed in moonlight and she was breathing in the scents around her. Even if she was calm she always stayed on alert. It would be so easy for a vampire to sneak up on her if she wasnt paying attention or let her guard down. And she had no doubt that there were vampires out there that wanted her dead.
So it came as no surprise when she smelt Patricks scent blend into the others. He wasnt being quiet either so she knew he wasnt hiding himself. But her eyes remained closed and she smiled slightly. He always knew where to find her. Even if she didnt come here he knew where she was. But it was his duty to watch out for his pack. Even still, it made her feel safe. He was strong and no one messed with him.
Her eyes opened though when he spoke up. She smiled brightly and said, "Hey. Whats up?" She knew that there was a lot of troubles going on. The war around the corner for instance. It was definately going to happen. There was no doubt. And that had to be taking a toll on him. But he seemed somewhat calmer now.

Patrick smiled back at her; she could do that to him. Such a sweet smile. "Nothing much." he said in answer to her question. "Just looking up the pack and seeing how everyone is."
He shifted, getting more comfortable, and crossed his arms over his chest. "I know I've not been around much lately..." he said, looking tired. "It's just...there's a lot going on." He glanced at her, raising his eyebrows. He assumed she knew at least some of it; the pack was buzzing with whispered rumors and conjectures. He hadn't tried to keep things from them. They had a right to know that he was leading them into a war.
"Are you ok?" he asked suddenly, bluntly. He wasn't very good at subtlety. Not with the people he cared about.

Katra had closed her eyes once again as he talked. His voice always calmed her down. Ever since that day. He was her very good friend and a father figure to her. She knew him very well and just by sitting by him she could tell he was worried. He might even be scared for the coming war. There would be death everywhere and she didnt want to see some of the pack die. But it would happen. They both knew that.
So she opened her eyes and looked at him when he was done talking and asked his question about her. She first addressed his absence. "I know you havent been around. But its all right. I know about the war. I may be young but I can piece things together with tidbits of information. It wont be a nice war...." She muttered and then shook her head. "And dont worry about me. Im fine. And Ill be fine through all of this. It takes more then a war and some vampires to pull me down." She said and smiled.

Patrick smiled, reaching out to gently pat her cheek. "I know." He said softly. "You're strong." He chucked her chin, then dropped his hand, sighing. "It's good. I don't have to worry about you falling apart..."
He snorted, then suddenly tipped over, leaning on her, and laughed. "We're being oh so very serious, aren't we?" he asked, his eyes dancing. "But we shouldn't be. You're supposed to help me loosen up a bit..." he teased, flashing her a quick grin. He couldn't help it; just being around his pack made him feel better, younger-more relaxed, and when he got relaxed, he became playful.

Katra smiled at him. He really didnt have to worry about her. She was tough and people sometimes claimed she was more serious then Patrick himself. She could see that when he became playful. He was always so fun when he wanted to be. And she missed that Patrick. She remembered that Patrick from when she was little.
So when he leaned on her and became his playful self she laughed and rolled her eyes. "Yes we are serious. And I get from you. Mr. brooder." She teased and then mussed up his hair and flicked his nose with her fingers. She could tease to but it wasnt very often when she did.

Patrick mock-growled, playfully nipping at her fingers. "Brat." he said, shaking his head. "Ungrateful brat..." he closed his eyes, his playfull mood slipping away as fast as it had come, and sighed again. "I should go" he said reluctantly. "Still have to track down a few people...I've been rather neglectful of late."
He opened his eyes, smiling at her. "You should get out." he said suddenly. "Find a cute boy, go have some fun." He spoke with dignity, like he was hundreds of years older than her instead of only a handful. "Do it while you can, Katra." He winked solemnly at her. "You promised to have babies so I could pamper them, remember?" he teased. She never had, but he couldn't resist while he was in old-man-grampa mode.

Katra chuckled at him as he nipped at her fingers and then mocked being hurt by his words. Her? A brat? Never. She placed a hand on her heart and made a hurt face. "Im a brat? Oh well fine then. I shall remain a brat even though that hurts. Right here." She told him and pat her chest where her heart was. But she smiled anyway and then she sighed when his playful mood slipped away.
She watched him silently and then blinked by his sudden change of topic. Go and find a boy. Right. Like she could. She rolled her eyes at him and said, "Right. Like any boy would like me? Im known to out brood you pops." She teased him and then shook her head. "No. Boys are out. And as for kids, I would give them to you if I had a boy that actually wanted you. And i dont think the kids would want to be called brat. But im sure you would spoil them." She rolled her eyes again at him.

Patrick frowned slightly. Then, suddenly, his hand shot up, capturing her chin in his fingers. "Stop that." He said flatly, no longer amused. In fact, he looked a bit angry. "That's bullshit and you know it. If I wasn't old enough to be your father...you're just using that as an excuse. I've seen the pack watch you. You're not without admirers. But you push them all away. So don't give me any of that 'no boy will ever like me' crap."
He sighed and his grip grew gentler. "You're a wonderful, beautiful, intellegent, capable girl and somewhere out there is a werewolf-or human-who can manage to outlast your stubborness. And THEN I shall have pups to spoil, stuff full of sugar, and send home to you." he said, smiling agian.

Katra was a little surprised by his anger. But then again it could be understood. She had the bad habbit of not giving herself justice most of the time and the whole boy isssue was her biggest problem. She didnt believe anyone wanted her. But she listened to Patrick and didnt say a word. She could do that much. And when he was done she didnt say anything at all. She just sighed slightly and rolled her eyes. That was answer enough for her.
But what did catch her attention was that he planned to pump her kids up with sugar. She blinked and then said, "Oh no! You will NOT pump my kids up with sugar and then have them coming home bouncing off the walls. You know how I was when I was younger. And kids are naturally hyper. Gramps." She said and nudged him gently.

Patrick chuckled. Privately, he sighed-she was always the same. Hopefully, one day there would come along a man with enough patience to chip through her shell; until then, all he could do was gently encourage her and prod her occasionally. For now, he let it go, knowing there was no real way to get her to listen.
Not a way he was willing to take, anyway.
"Mmm." He grinned and leaned against her again, closing his eyes. "Yes I will. And have some respect; you should call me Honored Grandfather." he laughed, nudging her. "Like those movies...the detective guy with all the grandkids he couldn't remember the names, so he called them Son number one and grandson number 3." He grinned, stretching. His weakness for old movies was pretty well known amongst those who were close to him.

Katra laughed and looked him in the eyes. She knew he was only looking out for her. And she could also tell that through that chuckle he was sighing. She always gave him a hard time when it came to things like this. Go kill a vampire. No problem, she was on it. Find a guy? There went the brakes. It wasnt happening anytime soon. She scared them all off. They could never get through to her.
When he leaned on her again and joked around she forgot about that though and laughed. Honored grandfather huh? "I would much prefer it if I didnt call you a grandfather. Your more of a father figure to me. And your not even close to old." She shook her head. She nudged him though when he talked about an old movie he liked. "You will not name my kids by numbers." She growled teasingly.

Patrick mock-pouted. "Why not? It would be easier." He grinned. "Ah well."
He fell silent, still leaning against her, savoring the peace he felt when he was talking to her. "Father figure huh?" he mused, a smile curving his lips. "I like that."
He had always regretted never having children of his own; he wasn't sure why. It had just...never happened. So it was nice to know that some of his pack looked to him as a father. For everything he did for them, and everything he felt for them...
"I should go." He said at last, his voice tired. "Lots to do...people to find, vampires to kill..."
