Nefertiti sat with a smug smile, as Isabel spoke about their ball being spoiled by babies. Two-hundred years old was hardly old enough to satisfy any age requirement Nefertiti might hold, and indeed, in her eyes, all around her were mere children, not by demeanor, but by their ages. She was a different sort though, and had to keep this in mind constantly.
"Indeed, though I do not see age so much as a requirement as overall behavior. But, I am aware that Monsieur Lacroix is very strict when it becomes to misbehaving young ones, am I right?" she asked, slightly turning to Marcel.
She was pleased that Isabel was so excited to plan the party, it was good that she was taking such initiatve. She wondered how her meeting with Sebastian would go, he seemed like a difficult man to sort out, but pleasing to know. She wished her the best.
"Excellent Isabel! I trust your party will be brilliant," she said, her lips curving into a satisfied smile.

Isabel stuttered for a moment, then replied, "I didn't mean it that way. Just that it was my idea.... And frankly I am a control freak. I have to have everything done exactly perfect. Nothing personal to anyone, but I have a very hard time handing over the power to someone else. I am sure you know how that is, Nefertiti." She looked at her expectantly, hoping she was not bweing too forward by calling her by her first name.
"So," she went on, "I just thought I would plant the details, although it's up to the rest of you to get the people who will actually be there. I will be in the background most of the time, making sure everything runs smoothly." She smiled hesitantly and fell silent after her little speech.

Nefertiti genuinely meant nothing of the sort by her choice and phrasing of words, but, trained as she was in the art of speaking, she was fascinated by her results. It seemed she extracted a personality trait of Isabel she hadn't even come to know, but suspected lay buried. It troubled her more than it pleased her, especially her attempt to relate her meager party to the trials and tribulations of an Egyptian queen.
She did not find the need to assure Isabel she meant nothing by her words, for she was very satisfied as knowing part of Isabel's true nature. In addition, she didn't feel she needed to apologize for anything, nor to anyone and she would not show a sign of sympathy. This party, as Isabel said, was her idea, and indeed, she would pilot it, and control it, as she wished.
"Don't be silly. You will want to contact Monsieur Lacroix soon though. I'll write his phone number for you," she said, requesting some papyrus from her nearest servant.

"Indeed, though I do not see age so much as a requirement as overall behavior. But, I am aware that Monsieur Lacroix is very strict when it becomes to misbehaving young ones, am I right?"
"Yes, Madame. He does seem to keep with tradition, but he has seen great parts of the world, and heck, I trust his judgement," he said, shrugging.
Marcel watched, or rather listened to what was going on with a small interest, which could be determined by his right eyebrow slightly raised. He cast Carlisle a look of understanding, women were interesting creatures, dead or immortal. Oh, or alive.
He was slightly surprised at the way Isabel spoke to the Queen. Yes, Nefertiti seemed to encourage familiarity but as far as Marcel was concerned, they were mere acquaintances. He did hope Isabel lived up to expectations, but trusted Sebastian would have things under control if her ball turned out only to be a miscontrued fantasy.
