Nora crumpled willingly into Ali's gentle embrace, no tears falling anymore because she was tired of crying. But then the dreaded question came. She heard the concern in Ali's voice, saw the worry in her eyes, and Nora knew that she couldn't lie, couldn't brush it off. She had to tell Ali, or she would hate herself forever. She would take the consequences. But she was also just so sick of holding this painful nugget of knowledge in herself.
Inora took a deep breath to steady herself and pulled back to look at Ali directly. "Well, um....my apartment was filled with fruit flies so I had to get it fumigated. Of course that meant that I couldn't be here while their were chemicals flying around in here. The exterminator told me that I had to go to a hotel while they were doing their work, so I did."
Her mind was screaming at her to stop, her survival instincts kicking in because they knew that she was going to be punished for this. But she kept talking.
"I packed up some stuff and headed to the closest hotel and got a room from them. But when I went to go to the room, some guy came into the elevator with me."
Inora looked at Ali and sighed. "It was Sevanni Black." She looked down at her wrists and saw that her body was trembling from the memory. "He just stood there at first, not doing anything and then he said my name and I knew it wasn't good. He said that's he'd 'heard such good things about me' and that it was a shame cause things were about to get bad."
She took a shaky breath and crossed her arms trying to stop them from shaking. "I tried to get him to leave me alone, but I couldn't do anything and then he....he stopped the elevator between floors and raped me." She nearly broke down in tears again but managed to hold herself together, showing uncharacteristic strength. "He raped me and then just left me there, bleeding and too hurt to do anything but lie on the elevator. He escaped out the top of the elevator and killed the technicians who were trying to get the elevator restarted."
Inora lifted her gaze to Ali's face and shook her head. "He told me if I told anyone he'd kill me. So that's probably what's going to happen now." She looked away again, accepting her fate. "You'll have to find someone to take over the pack, I don't have a beta." She said, her voice wooden and hollow. She was going to die, maybe not tonight but soon. Ali would not be able to stop herself from telling someone else or from going to Sevanni to berate him for his actions, therefore he would come for Inora and she would die at his hands.
Well, no, probably not at his hands, but by his orders. And Inora had accepted it.
There was nothing she could do to prevent it, nothing she could do to stop it when he did come. She was going to perish simply because she'd been too nice to say no when Adam had offered her the position of third-in-command, and because she'd been too comfortable in the belief that even if Adam or Landon disappeared the other would still be there.
Now she was alpha, and that had done absolutely nothing for her but cause problems. Her life was forfeit the moment she took that position, she should have realized that. She should have taken precautions. But the concept of bodyguards had never crossed her mind, and now it was far too late for such things.
"I love you Ali..." Inora said softly, hugging her friend tightly.
