Don't choke, don't choke. Ivan thought nervously to himself as he listened and carefully watched Alexa struggle to find the words to say. He was taken back as she began to cry and feed the bogus story to the detectives. She was good at acting. Real good. He wondered for a second if she did acting as well other than modeling.
No time to be thinking about that. As she told him to go, he looked over to Jason and Mike who had been sweating just as much as Alexa had been. They simply motioned for him to go as Jason whispered, "We'll just play along with it and try to hold em off as long as we can." God he felt so guilty for having to leave them behind. He figured he'd hide out somewhere until one of them called him or came looking for him.
If his heart had been beating it would have stopped as he heard the men of the swat team rush into the house. He quickly darted out the back door as it opened as more men came in and started running as fast as he could past the guys that had been standing in the backyard. He had moved too quickly for anyone to have seen him.
Though Alexa and the two other boys seemed completely harmless, the detectives had them all handcuffed and lined up against the wall as they searched the house. Not finding Ivan, the swat team were allowed to retreat while the detectives stayed to question them for a bit.
The taller man looked over to Alexa, his lips twisted in a crooked frown. He released that handcuffs from all three of them. "When was the last time you saw your brother? Do you know why we're here?"

When Alexa heard the click of the handcuffs around her wrists, she gave a furtive glance towards Mike and Jason. Great...Ivan gets away and we're being chained up, Alexa thought angrily.
It took the cops about forty-five minutes or so to search the house. They remained against the wall the whole time, the detective watching them closely. Alexa twitched occasionally, eyes remaining fixed on the cop as he paced back and forth.
"When was the last time you saw your brother? Do you know why we're here?"
Alexa and the boys were finally released, but she remained pressed against the wall. She chewed on her lip again, a sure sign of nervousness, but she let tears fall again.
"Last time I heard from him was about a month or so when he moved out. I was living with him. Our parent's are gone..." she whispered, her voice low and dejected. "And yeah...the race's right? The murders?"

The detective quirked a brow as the girl began crying again. He looked over to the other two boys who seemed to fidget nervously, not knowing what else to do. "So you know then.. I see." He jotted down everything Alexa had told him, keeping his eyes fixed on her. "Did you know he is responsible for all those murders?"
Ivan didn't know how far he'd run. Before he knew it he was out in the middle of nowhere. He was most likely in the outskirts of town, kind of close to where the races were held. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, checking to see if anyone had called him. Not yet.
"Great." he had been breathing heavily. Not from running but from his nervousness. He had no idea what he was going to do now that he was wanted for murder and he was sure Alexa would be pretty upset at him once he did get back to the house. He didn't mean to put so much weight on her shoulders but what else was he supposed to do?

Out of the corner of her eye, Alexa could see how the boys twitched nervously just like she did. She didn't know what they were thinking, but she thought it was probably best that she did all of the talking.
"Did you know he is responsible for all those murders?"
"All of them," she squeaked. All of them?! She knew that he had taken out Eric, but all of those people. They were innocent, just innocent bystanders at the races.
Alexa cleared her throat and scrubbed her eyes, feeling them swell with more tears, this time realistic ones. "No...I didn't know," she whispered, her body shaking as she tried not to curl into a ball on the floor.

"Yes, all of them." he said almost in a question. The detective wondered if the girl knew more than she was telling him but decided to leave it at that. "If you hear anything," he started as he put his small notepad into his jacket pocket. He pulled out a card with his contact information and gave one to each of them. "Call me right away. Ivan is dangerous and needs to be taken off the streets."
Both detectives let themselves out and shut the door behind them, leaving the three standing alone in the living room by the wall. The boys were more than relieved once the cops had left. They both took a seat on the couch, wiping the sweat from their faces.
"So who's gonna call Ivan?" Jason asked, trying to calm himself down. He had been shaking the entire time. He didn't want to go to jail for something he didn't do. It also made him nervous knowing that his friend was now being labeled as a serial killer. He knew that Ivan had taken Eric out, but there had been more than twenty or thirty people found dead at the scene.

"If you hear anything. Call me right away. Ivan is dangerous and needs to be taken off the streets."
Alexa barely managed to nod, still staring at the floor. She accepted the card with a shaky hand and watched as his boots made their way across the living room floor to let himself out.
As soon as the door clicked shut, a few footfalls and the slam of a door were heard, Alexa was down on the crowd, head on her knees with her arms wrapped around her skinny legs. "Why?" she whispered.
"So who's gonna call Ivan?" Jason said.
Alexa quickly shook her head as she shot to her feet. "No...I can't. I think I need to sleep," she mumbled before rushing up the stairs. Once she was in the dark sanctuary of Ivan's room, she plopped down on the bed, burying her face in the pillows. After a few moments of letting the real tears roll down her face and onto the fabric, an eerie calmness spread through her body that comes with crying and fell asleep.

It had seemed like forever before Ivan's phone began ringing. It was Jason. He immediately answered and listened anxiously as he was told what had happened and what was said. He began to wonder why Alexa hadn't called him. He was hoping she would. No matter, he'd find out once he got home.
Just like he had done when he left the house, he ran all the way back, not stopping once for anything. Not that he needed to. Running didn't exhaust him and he ran fast enough to get back home in no time. As he reached the front of his house he noticed that the bike he had stolen the previous night had been taken away. It was most likely being used as evidence since it had not only his blood, but the blood of others on the bike.
He threw the door open and quickly closed it after stepping in, locking it. "Where's Alexa?" his eyes shifted about the room and began to worry when he didn't spot her. He watched as Jason pointed up towards the ceiling indicating she was in his room. Thank god. He thought she had left and gone home instead of sticking around.
He jogged up the small flight of stairs and went straight into his room. There he saw her lying in bed, asleep. He had forgotten that she hadn't slept for almost two days all because of him. He quietly moved across the room and sat on the end of the bed deciding to wait until she awoke herself.

Alexa heard voices downstairs, automatically thinking that the cops were back. When she felt the bed push down near the end, she knew it was Ivan, the sweet smell that floated off of him tingling her nose.
For about three hours, Alexa drifted in and out of sleep. Unsure as to whether wake up and confront Ivan, or just slip back into darkness. She would occasionally toss and turn, stretch so her lower stomach was exposed, then roll back over.
When she finally decided to 'wake up', her eyes fluttered open, the brown irises shifting around then focusing on him. "You're back..." she whispered, a sweet half smile on her lips before her eyes widened fully and she sat up straight, a frown darkening her features. "Why?" she whispered in a harsh voice.

The entire time she slept, Ivan sat there quietly fiddling around with his lighter. He wanted to wake her to let her know that he was back but figured she needed the sleep. He looked back at her every now and then she she'd move and stretch then once she settled down again he would turn his attention back to the little black lighter he tossed back and forth between each hand.
When he heard her speak he dropped the light to the floor and looked back at her, his eyes glowing in the dark room. Though the room was almost completely black, he could see her perfectly clear. He shot a smile at her but it soon faded into a frown.
"Why?"
He gritted his teeth in annoyance and turned his attention away from her as he stood from the bed. He made his way towards the window and pulled the thick curtains away from it, letting the moon light shine in. "What do you mean why?" he shot back at her. "Did you not want me to come back?" He kept his back turn to her as his eyes scanned his backyard. He looked out in the distance in the direction he had run off in and wondered exactly how far he had gone.

Alexa scowled at him when he frowned at her. She was angry and didn't care what he thought. It was one of her stubborn moments and she felt like telling someone off.
Her dark orbs seemed to turn flat as he made his way to the window and drew back the curtain. Her attention drifted to the view of moon and the backyard. Her eyes came back to life, glittering at the beauty of the fullness of the moon.
"What do you mean why? Did you not want me to come back?"
Damn attention span, she wanted to curse.
She growled softly and shook her head. "Of course I wanted you to come back. I just wanted to know why you killed all of the poeple." Her tone was dead and dejected once more, just like when she had been lying to the detective. She wanted to wince at his tone, knowing he was angry now. She didn't want him to be angry. She just wanted to know why all the people had to die.

"Of course I wanted you to come back. I just wanted to know why you killed all of the people."
He allowed a minute or so for the question to process in his mind before he turned back to look at her, his arm crossed over his chest. The question did nothing but make him even more angry. Why was she questioning him about it? She wasn't there. She didn't witness what they had done to him once she left the scene.
"Why?!" he finally let out, extending his arms out to his sides in frustration. He let his arms drop down as he curled his fingers into fists. Though some of the victims that did lose their lives were indeed innocent, Ivan felt as if he were the victim in this mess. "Did you not see what they did to me last night?!"
He was letting his anger get the best of him. He was sure his voice could be heard through out the house since he was now shouting. He wanted to take her by her shoulders and shake some sense into her but he remained where he was. He began to curl and uncurl his fingers in an attempt to calm himself down.

"Why?!"
Alexa bit back a whimper as she scrunched her eyes closed. Maybe the darkness would make him disappear. She hadn't meant to make him angry...just simply wanted to know. She understood that he had been hurt, maybe even afraid, but why innocent people? That question was the only one she wanted to know.
"Did you not see what they did to me last night?!"
Tears twinkled on the edges of her closed eyes so she pressed her forehead against her arms so he wouldn't see, thinking it might provoke him further. When she finally mustered up the courage to look up at him, she only glanced back down.
"Yeah, I saw," she said. "I know Eric did you wrong, but the innocent ones..." she whispered. "Why the innocent?" She stared at the wall that was straight ahead, her feet digging into the duvet of the bed, as if trying to hide from his anger.

The whimper that emitted from her throat made Ivan feel guilty for snapping at her. He couldn't help it though. He hated how she acted like he was the bad guy with the whole situation, which he was, but he didn't see it that way. He took a deep breath in and remained silent to give her a chance to speak.
"I know Eric did you wrong, but the innocent ones..."
"What innocent ones?!" God he hated shouting at the poor girl but she was pushing his buttons. He was sure that she wasn't doing it intentionally but he was on edge, stressed about everything that had happened in only a matter of two days. "They weren't innocent Alexa." His tone remained the same as he walked across the room and slammed the door shut.
"Hey man! What's goin' on?" It was Mike's voice. Mike had always been a nosy worry wart and this only irritated Ivan more. This wasn't the time to be ganging up on him.

"What innocent ones?!"
Alexa sighed, trying to resist the urge to run away. Run away from the anger and the loudness. She clutched at the sheets now, liking olding herself together. The innocent ones that were just standing around...She wanted to say, but didn't get a chance when he yelled again.
"They weren't innocent Alexa."
How did he know that? He was a murderer, so he wasn't innocent either. Why was he yelling? She asked a mere question. "I'm sorry..." she whispered.
But he was already out the door. She heard Mike's voice echo from downstairs, but her own soft sobs drowned out any other voices that followed.

Ivan stormed down the hallway pushing past Mike and went downstairs. Along the way he slammed his fist into the wall, breaking a fairly large hole into it. "Calm down man what happened?!" Mike shouted from the top of the stairs. He simply watched as Ivan made his way around the end of the staircase and into the living room. He listened as the back door slammed shut as he made his way to the room.
He knocked his knuckles lightly against the bedroom door, a frown painted on his face. He knew Alexa was crying. What girl wouldn't after going through all the things she did in the past couple of days. "Uh, do you want me to take you home?" Mike asked nicely as he pressed himself against the door.
Ivan paced back and forth in his backyard as he lit a cigarette. He wanted to go up to apologize to her but he was too enraged to do that now. "Great now she's going to leave." he said to himself as he kicked a rock up and watched as it flew into the brick wall.
