Ruban walked with Morgan down the streets away from the fighting going on in the park, a feeling in the back of his mind kept him thinking of Valhalla even tho he desperately tried to rid her from it. "I'm sorry Morgan" he said with a soft gentle tone, not like the normal cold bitter teacher he had become of late. "I've never apologized to you for turning you into a vampire...It was selfish of me and I had no right" he said watching the humans walked down the street, he gave her a sad smiled "After five hundred years I still act like a child sometimes"

Morgan looked at him, surprise written on her face. She'd long since given up on an apology from her sire. He thought he'd done the right thing, and possibly he had. She did enjoy this life, even when she missed the sun. Somewhere inside her though, a tiny knot of unspent rage dissolved and drifted away. And it seemed genuine, a greater surprise. Even if it hadn't been, it had hurt her to see him pretend that he'd done her a favour. Her shocked expression changed to a warm smile as she looked at him.
"Don't worry about it. Only boring people grow up... and you were right. It is good to be like this."
She watched him walking alongside, and the tense way he moved. Restless. If he were anyone else she would have expected him to look over his shoulder. Her smile faded and she looked concerned. They shouldn't have left Valhalla there, and Ruban knew it. Though it was nearly certain she would come out on top, there was always the slim chance that something would go wrong.
"We should go back"

Ruban shook his head "No..she'll be fine I'm sure of it" he watched as a couple walked across the street and remembered back to an argument he and Valhalla had had, she had gotten into a squabble at a pub and he tried to help, this had insulted her and she didn't let it go for nearly 3 months. He sighed "No...she'll be alright...Valhalla's as tough as they come" he said softly he looked at her and smiled again "So what started the fight?...or rather should I say who?"

Morgan cringed. Now this was a question she'd been hoping to avoid, and she tried hard to think of a way to spin it. Whatever she did, Ruban would be pissed. Assuming she told the truth, that is. And if she did lie now then Ruban would undoubtedly get the truth from Valhalla. She sighed.
"Shaden touched me and I... bit him. He grabbed me and then Valhalla stepped in..."
Her voice went cold and dim, at the time adrenaline had kept her from losing the plot but looking back on it she felt a vague terror. Shaden might have killed her, if he'd had the time. She owed a lot to Ruban's sire.

Ruban sighed and brought a hand to his temple, back to the teacher "Morgan" he said firmly "I've told you countless times to be careful.....you can't just waltz around the New York...or the World Even oblivious to everything...you have to be alert...feel out people before you meet them, watch their actions, you know these things I should have to tell this to you again...you need to be more careful...what if Valhalla wasn't there?...What would you have done?" His eyes were fixed on her he looked fatherly in his lecturing and even tho he was stirn there was a bit of worry behind his eyes the real question behind them, the unspoken question of what will I do if something should happen to you?

"Hey, I was totally alert. It's not my fault he turned out to be a about a thousand years old and insane..."
She gave up. He was right, and he had told her. But being treated like a wayward teenager made her react like one, stupid as that was. Shadens blue eyes looked at her from a dark corner of her mind. Something to add to a painting later, maybe then she would be frightened out of walking the streets at night. Ruban's lecture just made her feel like going out and shooting heroin, or burning down another hotel room. She thought she'd escaped lectures on 'paying attention' and 'being cautious' when her mother had died. She looked to him again, regretful.
"You're right. I'm sorry, ok? But what's the good of being a monster if you have to watch your back all the time?"
She'd gotten some confidence back now, they were walking fast and the night was young. An alley cat watched them pass from the lid of a garbage can with a bored expression.

"Just remember that there is always someone stronger" he said softly "You might be immortal to time but you can still die...I don't want you to have to struggle to survive...I worry about you"
Ruban sighed and rubed his temple "Sorry I'm starting to sound like Valhalla....she was tough so I guess I'm a bit tough on you..."
He licked his lips "She didn't say anything about me did she?" he asked suddenly

"She didn't get a chance... there was a lot going on."
Morgan gave him a questioning look. Just what would she have said? A fine mist of rain was coming down now, that clung to her eyelashes and condensed into droplets on her cheeks. The cerulean fabric of her dress clung to her body. Her hair changed colour with the damp and lay flat against her neck. She felt sleek, like an ocean creature- a shark or something. Her dark eyes probed the night, there were only a few people out. Faceless stumps of black. Black umbrella, black coat, black heels clicking on the sidewalk. The rain hid some of their human smell. Morgan could watch them with clinical disinterest instead of the lust that she'd come to accept. Ruban was a comforting presence, they walked in silence for a few steps. Suddenly she looked to him again.
"When she turned you, did you hate her? You didn't have a choice either."
She veered suddenly into a sidestreet, a near dead-end occupied by plastic crates and a lonely guy who might have been a dealer. He looked expectant. The man was shivering in the cold, but he looked up as she approached with an oily grin. His hand went to his pocket. In one smooth movement, Morgan snatched the mans collar and shoved him back against the wall. The dealer yelled and struggled, exactly as she had herself not an hour ago. Her eyes stayed on Ruban, ink-black and expressionless.
"What about him, then?"
She shook the man, still not looking at him. He screamed obscenities. His legs kicked the air.
"Why shouldn't he experience the wonders of eternal life?"
There was no rage in her voice, just a kind of distance. Pain a long way away that she wasn't paying attention to. A genuine question.

Ruban sighed and stared at the dealer for a moment "Any human is able to turn into a vampire....however...not every human has the mental capacity to handle it...when we turn someone most often it is because he was a special connection with them...and or know that they could handle an immortal life" He looked at the dealer "Our Childe's cause us pain....after you turn someone you are forever connect to them....whatever happens to them effects you....and you are responsible for them...if they was to die you would feel that pain...parhaps not physical but your spirit....a part of you will die with them" He licked his lips "and to answer your question earlier I never started hating Valhalla until a year or so before I left her...she was such a vibrant person I was fascinated by her...besides the life style I was living had little differences from the one she had given me I looked on it as a gift...but years later I started to realize exactly what she had given me and I started to Hate her for it"

The dealer had fallen silent as they spoke, and now stared at between them wild-eyed. He saw the too-pale skin, the bright eyes, flashes of teeth as they talked. The way the woman held him, effortless, glowing pale in the rain. Morgan listened in silence to Ruban's answers, still ignoring the warm human throat that she held. Droplets of rain heated by his body slid between her fingers. As he spoke she thought about Valhalla, and Rubans fangs to her throat, and waking up immortal. And new colours. Gradually, the coldness in her eyes faded and she just watched him. When he'd finished speaking she nodded once, accepting easily everything he'd just said.
The slender hand white against the man's sallow skin tightened, and Morgan suddenly turned to look at him. Objectively, he was ugly. His eyes were drawn with fear, and it looked like his nose had been broken once or twice and set poorly. She grinned at him in delight. This was what she found disappointing about vampires sometimes, a total lack of ugliness. The mans face was like an ill-considered sculpture. She reveled in it with a sudden attraction. Everything was relative. She missed ugliness, the damp pores, the livid red sore of an ingrown hair on his cheek. As he stared, transfixed by her alien beauty, she lent close to him, breathing his scent. Cheap cigarettes. She'd already fed once tonight, but there was no reason... with the gentleness of a lover, she kissed the mans lips. All the tastes were so human, not like kissing Ruban at all. Her lips trailed sensuously to his throat. Within seconds she held a limp corpse in her arms. Cradling it, she looked back to her sire.
"Do you know, I stopped feeling guilty after the first three kills."
She grinned.
"I can't have been that good a mortal anyway."

Ruban smiled, he raised his eyes to the falling droplets of rain "I would like to show you something Morgan" he said still smiling his manner had changed slightly, he walked with her through the rain through the city streets stopping at a rundown and abandoned warehouse. He smiled at the confused expression her her face then walked inside, it was a glass factory, the roof was all but gone, what little remained cast shadows down on the broken shards of glass that littered the ground, the rain reflected off the finished, unfinished and broken bits of glass, making the entire factory look like a crystal waste land, it was beautiful. "This factory went out a business years ago....I still like to come here ever so often when it rains" he said smiling "It's beautiful yes?"

"Oh yes... definitely"
Morgan gazed around in open awe, it was like a fairytale place. Tiny rainbows refracted through the shattered pieces of glass, and the raindrops turned them into whorls of colour. Up above them, the few un-rotten rafters were a net of black between them and the stars. She took a slow step backwards as she stared up into the rain. A shard of bottle green glass ground to dust under her heel with a sharp tinkle. The human in her looked down quickly to see what was broken. She turned to Ruban, smiling warmly. Her eyes reflected a million tiny points of light, like stars in her dark iris.

"I love it!"
Laughing, Morgan turned in his arms and reached up to touch his cheek. Her hand was hot with the blood of two people, newly dead. She smoothed the damp hair from his face, then in a swift motion she tipped her head to kiss him passionately, lingering a long time in it. Just being close. With the heat of the blood she felt almost human again. A shiver ran up her spine and she drew her fingers through his hair, pressing close to his body.

((Hey, can you join the Central Park thread I'm in please? I think it's called First time in central park or something. If you don't want to be bothered that's ok, I'll just have Morgan fail to find you.))
